Transport Planner  – Belfast

We are seeking to recruit a Transport Planner to support and efficiently manage a daily schedule of deliveries and orders to customers in Great Britain and Ireland. The Planners key focus is to maximise the profit per truck per day, ensuring that the highest level of quality customer service is provided whilst seeking opportunities to reduce empty running.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to stated policies and procedures relating to health and safety, and quality management
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to regarding legal compliance for drivers and vehicles
  • Keep up to date with all aspects of transport legislation and regulation and advise the organisation accordingly
  • Roster management and completion / update Stratum TMS
  • Taking and managing the transport department telephone calls including out of hours on a rota basis
  • To manage incoming customer’s/supplier’s emails, faxes and telephone orders and plan deliveries unto Stratum
  • Managing calls from hauliers
  • Booking Hauliers as per preferred list
  • Liaise with warehouse operations regarding loading requirements
  • Ensure all operational data is entered unto Stratum in order to produce KPI’s
  • To track vehicles on Masternaut to ensure customer service and compliance
  • React to changes in plans and issues that arise ensuring communication with our customers at all times
  • Liaise with Customer Care to ensure customer orders are raised correctly
  • Plan efficiently and in the most cost effective manner to ensure profitability
  • Identify and implement strategies to maximise vehicle utilisation
  • Actively seek opportunities for backloads in order to minimise empty running to achieve budgeted gross margins
  • Take ownership of queries, deal with promptly and report feedback
  • Processing of drivers, holidays, absence and wages
  • Preparation of documents and reports
  • Perform administration tasks efficiently and to a high standard
  • To work as part of a team to contribute to the efficiency of the overall transport division
  • To provide support and training for new colleagues
  • Carry out any reasonable duties as requested by management

Qualifications

  • English GCSE at Grade C or above, OR Essential Skills level 2 (or higher) in Communication, or equivalent.
  • Maths GCSE at Grade C or above, OR Essential Skills level 2 (or higher) in Numeracy, or equivalent.
  • CPC in Road Transport desirable

Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevant recent experience of working in a transport service provider
  • Recent experience of planning and organising vehicle movements
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications to include spreadsheets and databases
  • Experience of working with others and in teams to deliver successful outcomes
  • Flexible approach with a focus on service and performance
  • Up-to-date with relevant legislation
  • Good Geographical knowledge of GB & Ireland
  • Experience of the Stratum and Masternaut systems is desirable but not essential
