OPERATIONS MANAGER – Chemical Distribution

£Competitive + Excellent Benefits

Based Belfast, BT3 9LL

Brenntag UK & Ireland (part of the global Brenntag Group) is the market leader in specialty, bulk and packaged chemical distribution. In the UK, we employ over 750 people from 21 strategic sites, three sea-fed facilities and have a dedicated fleet of over 100 vehicles. We serve over 20,000 customer accounts nationwide.

Headquartered in Leeds, Brenntag UK & Ireland offers its business partners a wide range of products and value added services such as filling services and mixing and blending, as well as technical support and services for various industries within the life science,  environmental and material science sectors.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will enjoy a key management role at this well-established site, leading a dedicated team across all day to day operations, spanning a variety of storage, filling, blending and packing activities, along with the transport and distribution of packaged chemicals. Responsible for ensuring that we deliver on customer service and budget targets, this will involve:

  • The management of chemical storage in the depot warehouse, and acting as the site’s Health & Safety Lead Co-ordinator, with responsibility for the Safety Management System
  • Oversight of legal, regulatory, statutory compliance and quality requirements, as well as managing the contact/interface with relevant professional and regulatory bodies
  • Working closely with the Transport Manager to ensure the safe and effective movement and distribution of chemicals throughout the depot fleet
  • Identifying site and operational improvements, raising performance levels and implementing agreed Capex requirements as scheduled in the annual plan
  • Responsibility for the management and upkeep of packaging function, whilst also ensuring our sea-fed operations and ‘out of hours’ emergency calls are handled effectively

As an experienced (and ideally professionally qualified) Operations Manager, with a chemical (or similar) industry background and a proven track record in a related role, you should be:

  • Accustomed to working to similar regulatory standards, hold IOSH/NEBOSH qualifications and have a good, practical understanding of storage and distribution logistics activities
  • An exceptional people manager, with first rate communication skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines and consistently deliver results, whilst working under pressure
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of commitment to both continuous improvement and the role, including a willingness to participate in an occasional ‘out of hours/on-call’ rota
  • Any additional knowledge of Inorganic Chemistry and associated processes, along with an understating of HAZOP activities would also be desirable, but is by no means essential

In return, we can offer an attractive salary and benefits package, which includes company pension scheme, 25 days’ holiday (including the option to buy & sell) and free parking, as well as excellent training and development schemes.
