Health and Safety Adviser (Band 7)

Location: Lough House, Ards Hospital, Newtownards

Contract: Permanent

Salary scale: £32,893 – £42,616

Are you a qualified Health and Safety practitioner working or interested in working in one of the largest health & social care Trusts in Northern Ireland?

The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust is currently recruiting for a Health and Safety Adviser who will be responsible for the provision of specialist knowledge, advice and guidance on Health & Safety matters within the Trust. You will play a vital role in supporting the Head of Risk Management Advisory Services with the provision of this service across acute, primary and secondary care services to ensure that the Trust is fully aware of, and meets its health and safety obligations in accordance with health and safety legislation and all other relevant standards. You will be responsible for the development & delivery of structured health and safety training programmes.

As Health & Safety Adviser you are the nominated officer for the reporting of RIDDOR reportable incidents. You will also play a key role in the promotion of a safe and healthy environment for the benefit of patients/clients, staff and visitors to the Trust.

Essential criteria:

A Degree and a recognised professional occupational health and safety qualification at Diploma level or above

OR

A recognised professional health and safety qualification at Diploma level or above and a minimum of 3 years’ experience of health and safety, preferably within the healthcare sector working as a health and safety manager/adviser.

AND

Working towards or achieved Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)

Your skills and abilities should include:

  • Proven experience in the designing and delivery of training programmes within the last three years.
  • Practical experience in developing, implementing and monitoring various types of risk assessment methodologies, investigation of accidents/incidents and developing safe systems of work.
  • Demonstrate evidence of being able to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain good working relationships.
  • Demonstrate ability to be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to present material in a clear and comprehensive manner.
  • Demonstrate evidence of ability to prioritise work, meet tight deadlines and be able to handle conflicting priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrate working competence in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel & Powerpoint) and Microsoft Outlook
  • You will hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criterion will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
