POST: INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (Design or Mechanical Engineering)

DURATION: TEMPORARY (6 JANUARY 2020 UNTIL 18 DECEMBER 2020)

HOURS: 36 HOURS PER WEEK

GRADE: BAND 6 NJC 33 – 36

SALARY: £29,909 – £32,233 PER ANNUM

LOCATION: PORTADOWN (There will be a requirement to travel to other campuses)

REPORTS TO: BUSINESS SUPPORT AND INNOVATION MANAGER

INTRODUCTION

The Southern Regional College is seeking to appoint an Innovation and Technology Specialist (ITS) as part of its Business Support and Innovation team.  The ITS’s primary role will be to help strengthen the College’s position as a primary provider of business support and knowledge transfer activity to local and regional business and industry.

The Business Support and Innovation centre aims to;

  • help companies  innovate, compete and grow through the provision of a unique mix of technical and business know-how, research and development services;
  • support industry-focused curriculum enhancement and innovation in key vocational areas;
  • increase employer-college engagement to underpin, develop and strengthen innovative and flexible approaches to meeting current and future skills needs;
  • enhance the skills and job prospects of learners through a range of company – college initiatives;
  • build a reputation for excellence in vocational and technical learning, knowledge & technology transfer, innovation and enterprise.

JOB PURPOSE

Working as a member of SRC’s Business Support and Innovation team, the post-holder will lead the College’s industry engagement in the area of Advanced Engineering focusing on areas including product development, prototyping and mechanical engineering.  The post holder will be responsible for identifying, securing and delivering a range of technical projects, knowledge transfer services, specialist training and skills development programmes for business and industry clients. 

The post-holder will work strategically to build relationships with a range of businesses, industry groups and academia with the aim of further developing SRCs capacity to provide quality and relevant support services to business clients whilst also contributing to the development of an industry focused curriculum. 

Eligibility Criteria

Essential Criterion

  • A minimum of a degree (or higher) qualification in Mechanical / Manufacturing / Design Engineering or a closely related area.
  • A pass grade at GCSE Level in English Language or Essential Skills Level 2 in Literacy or an equivalent qualification.
  • A pass grade at GCSE Level in Mathematics or Essential Skills Level 2 in Numeracy or NICATS Access Math’s Modules or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of one years’ experience (in the last five years’) working within a Mechanical / Manufacturing / Design Engineering environment or providing technical expertise / mentoring support to businesses in similar areas.

Desirable Criterion

  • Experience in product development from design through to prototyping and testing.

Other Essential Criteria

A full current driving licence which enables you to drive in Northern Ireland, and access to a car for official business purposes. (Please refer to the General section in the application pack for further information).
