 Job Description

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will ensure all materials, out sourced components and plant hire required for production, stock and site are available when required and to specification, satisfying business requirements in terms of delivery, cost and quality.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer will ensure all materials, out sourced components and plant hire required for production, stock and site are available when required and to specification, satisfying business requirements in terms of delivery, cost and quality.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and schedule the daily outputs of the company’s ERP system, converting purchase requisitions to purchase orders, in-line with the company’s fiscal policies and production schedules
  • Ensure data integrity (supplier pricing, planning data, etc.) within the company’s ERP system at all times
  • Negotiate each transaction for the company, ensuring best value for CDE, including optimum payment terms, rebates, volume discounts etc.
  • Report on key metrics including but not limited to cost savings, supplier delivery (OTD), supplier quality etc.
  • Ensure continuity of supply within the supply base, particularly all key suppliers
  • Hire and off-hire various plant items as requested from the site teams
  • Feedback to Design any inaccuracies within product structures to ensure future BOM releases are accurate
  • Actively participate in stock takes
  • Initiate and lead process improvements to improve stock accuracy
  • Support other Group companies as required
  • Any other ad hoc duties
Qualifications/Attainments 
Essential 
  • Degree educated in an engineering or business related subject 
Desirable
  • Member of CIPS
Relevant Experience 
Essential 
  • Must have at least 3 years purchasing/material planning experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Previous experience in sourcing and dealing with global suppliers, as well as developing and maintaining strong supplier relationships
  • Negotiation experience
Desirable 
  • Experience of IFS Apps 9.
Special Aptitudes 
Essential
  • Demonstrate experience of IFS or other ERP software
  • PC literate – proficiency in Microsoft Excel essential
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical skills
