Excellent opportunity for a Business Development Assistant based in Derry/Londonderry

REPORTING TO: Director of Finance & Economic Engagement through Business Skills Manager.

LOCATION: The successful applicant may be required to work in any of the College’s buildings, as necessary. The initial location will be Strand Road Campus.                     

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To support the Business Skills Manager to deliver the income generation targets across the Business Development function and engage with employers and other external stakeholders to build relationships.

The Postholder will: the Business Skills Manager to achieve the activity and income targets including Skills Focus, Higher Level Apprenticeships and Training Academies; relationships with employers, stakeholders and other external agencies;

3.provide administrative support to the Business Skills Manager; the Business Skills Manager to co-ordinate the activity to be delivered by NWRC under externally funded initiatives such as DfE Skills Focus, Higher Level Apprenticeships and the DfE Change Fund; the Business Skills Manager with the preparation of funding applications/tenders/reports as required;

6.attend meetings with employers/stakeholders, in conjunction with Business Skills Manager, as required, to explore potential for the delivery of Business Development activities;

7.actively promote, organise and schedule Skills Focus programmes and achieve allocated targets;

8.engage with SME’s to conduct Training Needs Analysis and develop funding proposals in line with business needs and funding mechanisms; MIS data and prepare monthly reports on all business development activity;

10.upload data and baseline information onto the College CRM System and prepare the Skills Focus monthly claim;

11.input details and maintain the Business Development CRM system to support the management of relationships with customers;

12.liaise with Finance to supply all evidence required for claims for business development activities funded externally;

13.carry out other support activities as necessary which may include supporting external business development events and activities; with the Marketing Team to ensure the Business Development section of the website is up to date;

15.attend and contribute to Business Development meetings;

16.contribute to the Business Development SER and Operation Plan;

17.conduct research into the skills needs of the Northern Ireland economy pulling from sector specific resources including SSC’s, government agencies and any other sources to inform short course provision and curriculum development;

18.develop a quality assurance feedback mechanism that will capture a 360 degree feedback analysis to include lecturer, employer and learner that will facilitate quality improvement and inform curriculum on programme delivery;

19.develop and implement a tracking system that will track, monitor and evaluate all data relating to Business Development activity;

20.comply with and actively promote College policies and procedures on all aspects of equality;

21.ensure full compliance with Health and Safety requirements and legislation in accordance with College policies and procedures;

22.ensure full compliance with the College’s quality assurance systems and procedures in accordance with College policies and procedures;

23.undertake any other duties as required by the College’s Principal and Chief Executive or persons carrying his delegated authority.

The list of duties is not exhaustive.  The postholder will be expected to undertake other relevant duties in order to meet any changing operational requirements.


Terms and conditions of employment are those as laid down by the

Non-Teaching Negotiating Committee for Further Education in Northern Ireland and will include locally agreed terms and conditions.

Salary Scale

Band 4, Scale Column Point 18, £18,870 to Point 25, £23,111 per annum.

Hours of Work

The hours of work will not normally be less than 36 per week.  The hours of duty which may be on any of the College sites will be such as laid down to meet the needs of the College and may include periods of duty after, as well as before 5.00 pm on any Monday to Friday.

Annual Leave Entitlement

Entitlement to annual leave is 21 days in a full holiday year in addition to 12 public and extra statutory holidays.  Entitlement to leave in the first year of employment is pro-rata to the number of months completed. Due to the nature of the work annual leave will normally be taken outside of term time.

Pension Scheme

There is an Occupational Pension Scheme relating to employment with the College.  Further details will be provided on appointment.  

Other Employment

No other employment should be entered into during the period of employment with the North West Regional College.  No employment by or in the service of another person or body should be undertaken except with express approval of the Principal and Chief Executive.
