R&D Shift Engineers are essential to our mission of building the world’s best storage technologies. You will work as part of a team under guidance from the R&D Engineering Manager and working with the shift technicians and engineers supporting R&D product and technology integration. You will provide shift cover supporting and delivering their objectives of advanced process integration, process improvement, minimum process variation and maximum yields, while also helping to minimize wafer delivery times and maximize learning.

About the role:

You will be working in our high-tech clean room fabrication facility using the most advanced manufacturing processes and tools. You will have the opportunity to develop and grow valuable technical, manufacturing and research skills, in a demanding and rewarding environment.

The main focus of this position will be to support development of novel designs and processes for advanced magnetic and magneto-optic read/write transducers. Areas of responsibility will include, but not be limited to vacuum deposition/etch, photolithography, electroplating, chemical mechanical polishing, associated metrology techniques and data analysis.

You will do :

  • Interface with sustaining and manufacturing teams on shift to maintain yields and ensure timely delivery of new technologies and products.
  • Wafer production operations and flow management.
  • Development of new designs, materials and device structures.
  • Support advanced process characterization including control plans.
  • Process integration.
  • Micro fabrication tool processing and qualification.
  • Process troubleshooting and yield improvement.
  • Failure and defect analysis.
  • Statistics and fault grading.
  • Provide oral and written updates on projects and tasks.

Your experience includes: 

  • We seek professionals with technical expertise on wafer fabrication process and equipment with a background in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Applied Mechanics, Physics, or related field.
  • Previous manufacturing experience in a related discipline with a proven track record of project management, problem solving and strong communication skills is desirable.

Working hours will involve either :

  • 4-day Rotating Shift Pattern – (12 hour rotating shift pattern (4 days : 6am to 6pm, 4 days off, 4 nights : 3pm to 3am, 4 days off).
  • Weekend Shift Pattern –  (Fri – Sun : 7am – 7pm; Mon : 7am – 1pm)
