Description of business unit

NI Risk performs a “First Line of Defence” role, providing support to the Bank’s Distribution activities in NI and helping colleagues to meet the needs of the Bank’s consumer and business customers by ensuring that products and services provided to NI customers comply with Regulatory and Internal Control standards.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting directly to the Head ofRisk NI, this management role takes the lead in the application of the Group’s Business Control Framework [BCF] which provides an effective methodology for the business to identify, assess, control, mitigate, monitor, and report operational risk.

Supporting the NI Distribution activities of BOI UK – branch, telephone and Business Banking activities in NI – NI Risk performs a “first line of defence” role supporting line managers in their risk management activities.

Key Accountabilities

Whilst working in conjunction with other colleagues in the NI Risk team, this role takes the overall lead in ensuring that the BOI Group’s Business Control Framework [BCF] is embedded and fully operational across the NI Consumer and Business Banking operations.

Specific area of focus is to work with business heads in supporting the cyclical planning and management of the risk assessment and risk acceptance process, ensuring that BCF guidance is complied with.

Act as Subject Matter Expert on the “RADAR” system [the BOI Group operational risk system], assisting business units and NI Risk colleagues with their use of the tool and arranging training/coaching support as require

Measure and monitor NI’s residual risk profile against risk appetite and provide timely and relevant MI to management and governance committees on business unit residual risk profiles to enable management to take appropriate action

Perform thematic risk assessments across NI against specific risk types e.g. business continuity, information security, conduct

Develop the NI’s end-to-end risk assessment capability by collaborating with colleagues across BOI Group

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Good understanding of key aspects of Operational and Regulatory Risk and the Bank’s Business Controls Framework
  • Good knowledge of the products and operations within Consumer & Business Banking areas in NI.
  • Strong systems/IT capability
  • Experience of dealing with complex problems.
  • Able to communicate with people at all levels of the organisation, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Third level qualification or similar professional accreditation
  • Experience in a risk/compliance/legal environment
  • Project Management experience
