POST: MENTOR (COLLEGE CONNECT PROGRAMME)

DURATION: TEMPORARY UNTIL 30th JUNE 2021

HOURS: 36 PER WEEK  

GRADE: BAND 4 NJC 18 – 25

SALARY: £18,870 – £23,111 PER ANNUM                                

LOCATION:NEWRY CAMPUS        

(There will be a requirement to travel to other campuses)

REPORTS TO: LEAD MENTOR / HEAD OF SCHOOL

JOB PURPOSE  

To act as mentor and recruiter of suitable candidates from the NEETs community onto a level one programme which widens access to qualifications and includes social, emotional and academic development to encourage progression into further education, training  and/or employment to increase economic performance and combat poverty in the region.

To mentor young people 16-24 years who, for a range of health, emotional, academic or social reasons, face challenges in their lives which have resulted in them not engaging in education or employment.

The post holder will be a part of this team and will work in partnership with a range of stakeholders including EOTAS, the Careers Service of Northern Ireland, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and multidisciplinary professionals internally and externally, to support engagement, boost self-esteem and develop the student’s ability to form and maintain safe and worthwhile relationships based on respect for themselves and others.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential Qualifications

1.A Level 6 qualification in any discipline

2. A pass grade at GCSE Level in English Language or Essential Skills Level 2 in Literacy or an equivalent qualification.

3. A pass grade at GCSE Level in Mathematics or Essential Skills Level 2 in Numeracy or NICATS Access Math’s Modules or an equivalent qualification.

Essential Experience

4.A minimum of one year’s relevant* employment experience within the last seven years;

*relevant is defined as experience working with young people 16-24 in an educational or youth setting or experience motivating and engaging young people with a range of challenges e.g. health, emotional, social or learning. 

Other Essential Criteria

A full current driving licence which enables you to drive in Northern Ireland, and access to a car for official business purposes. (Please refer to the General section in the application pack for further information).
