Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Process Engineer NI Water Alpha Contract Type: Permanent; Full-Time Salary: Starting on £28.5k to £30k based on experience, Progressing to £34,570 in increments related to on the job competency. Closing Date: 10am, Monday 5th August 2019


Background: Northern Ireland Water Alpha 

Formed in 2006, NI Water Alpha is a public health utility, which has the responsibility for the production and supply of 47% of the total supply of potable water to Northern Ireland Water for onward supply to c.400k customers in Northern Ireland. NI Water Alpha Limited has 30 employees.  A management team of 5 provide strategic direction and management of the business (Band 3a and 3b) supported by a frontline workforce (Band 4/5/6) delivering operational services on behalf of the business.

Critically this includes the delivery of clean, safe drinking water to hospitals, schools, farms and many other important community organisations as well as businesses. Among these customers are the sick, the elderly and some of our most vulnerable citizens. Ensuring the continuity of this essential service to customers is therefore viewed as vital not only by NI Water Alpha Limited but by the population and its elected representatives. The treatment and consistent supply of c.275 million litres of high quality drinking water every day requires significant levels of largely unseen intervention to operate, repair and maintain the associated infrastructure and assets. The delivery of these services (on a 24/7, 365 basis) is dependent upon a motivated, flexible and technically skilled workforce.

Kelda Water Services Alpha Limited was acquired by Northern Ireland Water Limited on 20th November 2017 and rebranded as Northern Ireland Water Alpha Limited.  The existing Public Private Partnership contract has been maintained and the management of the Client (NI Water) and Funders remains integral to the operation of the business

About the Role:

The purpose of this role is to ensure delivery of all scheduled, planned and reactive maintenance activities within required timescales and to support Operations with Process Control and Optimisation.

Job Activities:

  • Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management and control of work and ensure compliance with the NIWA Safety Policy.
  • Carry out Work Management System (WMS) allocated tasks and provide feedback directly onto WMS.
  • Ensure assets are operated to avoid environmental and public health nuisance.
  • Support the asset management reporting process.
  • Investigate problems with assets and recommend solutions.
  • Management of maintenance spares and logistics to ensure stocks held at site are maintained to required levels.
  • Procurement activity for maintenance spares and equipment in order to deliver maintenance tasks.
  • Responsible for the supervision of contractors, as required, ensuring they comply with NIWA’s policies and procedures at all times.
  • Responsible for asset data generated from maintenance activities. Provide input to Ship 2 Port shutdown planning systems to maximise the shutdown opportunities afforded to NIWA as part of the contract with NIW.
  • This role may be required to work a different working pattern in specific circumstances to suit the needs of the business e.g. shut downs
  • Check and calibrate control instrumentation.
  • Carry out manual water quality sampling.
  • Monitor & record flows and condition of catchment (including reservoir area) for Ballinrees reservoir. Ensure intakes are clear of debris.
  • Compile Risk Assessments and input in Method statement development.

    Company Car:

  • Company car lease. A contribution towards the type of car you lease will be required dependent on the car you choose and to enable the car to be used for personal use.

  • There is an option to use your own vehicle.  The vehicle must be roadworthy and your car must have Business Insurance.  The mileage rate for personal car is 45p/mile for the first 5000 miles.
