 Job Description

A Legal Professional / Legal Researcher role focuses on finding opportunities for claimant work by keeping abreast of the voluminous news of investigations and decisions that are generated by the EU Commission and the national competition authorities.


The Team

The current team comprises lawyers across the competition and dispute resolution departments in various firm wide offices who work together to develop and represent clients who have follow-on private damages work arising out of cartel and abuse of dominance decisions.

The Role

A Legal Professional / Legal Researcher role focuses on finding opportunities for claimant work by keeping abreast of the voluminous news of investigations and decisions that are generated by the EU Commission and the national competition authorities. Once identified, the opportunities need to be evaluated for legal and financial viability – for instance considerable internal discussion is often needed to assess the possible interest a target may have in the opportunity and how to approach that target. This role suits someone with working knowledge and interest in competition law and /or evident research skills.

Responsibilities
  • To keep abreast of the large number of decisions coming out of the EU Commission and the national competition authorities
  • To identify possible opportunities in this data that might be of interest to FF
  • To research potential clients who might be interested in bringing claims arising out of Art 101/102 decisions – including working from our own client base
  • To help prepare trade/commercial data needed to develop such opportunities
  • To work with fee earners and marketing team members on developing materials and leads
  • We envisage that the individual will be asked to help support the wider competition litigation group – particularly across the German and Dutch offices
Key Skills & Experience
  • Undergraduate degree, GDL if applicable and LPC
  • Previous experience and interest in Competition Law and economics
  • Understanding of the commercial factors in follow-on cases
  • Good skills in research and investigation
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organisational and time management skills;
  • Ability to prioritise your workload effectively
  • Able to work well within a team
