Excellent opportunity for a Design Engineer based in Banbridge


Snack Engineering Ltd is a specialised consultancy and design firm based in Banbridge but operating in over 20 countries throughout the world. We are a small team of engineers who work on bespoke problems for our clients in the food industry, mostly snack foods. The previous several years have seen a rapid expansion in machinery design and component manufacture side of the business and we are now seeking a junior design and projects engineer to further develop that area.

Role

As you will be working in a small and dynamic team; the individual best suited to this role will be required to see projects through their entire lifecycle from concept, design, manufacture, commissioning and support. The person ideally will be from a mechanical background and as a bonus would have some experience or exposure to electrical control and food processing in an industrial environment. However, any engineering discipline will be considered if you meet the criteria below. Due to the nature of the role there will be a requirement for travel and work abroad, sometimes at short notice.

Recent projects include:

  • High accuracy vegetable application
  • Complete factory layouts and installations in Kenya and the UK
  • Robotic pick and place system for packing snacks
  • Loss in Weight powder application system
  • Measuring pack volume using vision/laser configurations to test for leaking packets
  • Toroidal heating chamber for the expansion of pellets, roasting of coffee nuts and popcorn production 

Responsibilities

  • Work onsite with customers to develop solutions to their problems
  • Produce 3D Solidworks drawings of machinery and components
  • Conduct preliminary trials at our workshop
  • Rapid prototyping (3D printing/CNC models etc) to create working models of bespoke components
  • Produce manufacturing drawings, BoMs and FDS for our manufacturing partners
  • Work with contractor and suppliers to ensure standards and objectives are met
  • Produce manuals and technical documentation
  • Supervise system throughout manufacture and work with customers
  • Install and commission system on site
  • Source parts and materials
