Exciting opportunity for a Commercial Buyer to join its expanding team.


The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader in UK’s Building Services providers. We design, develop and deliver a wide range of offsite-prefabricated, innovative and sustainable building service solutions throughout the UK & Ireland.

 Alternative Heat specialises in the design, supply and installation of a wide range of Pre-Fabricated energy solutions, typically built in NI and shipped throughout the UK & Ireland. We also offer turnkey design, build & operate solutions for commercial energy centers and large-scale district heating solutions and have experience with successfully procuring and delivering many similar packages to a wide range of public body’s throughout Ireland & UK.

We are currently looking to fill the role of Commercial Buyer to support our growing Purchasing Team in our fabulous new Head Quarters based in Banbridge. This post is a permanent contract and offers an amazing opportunity for a candidate who wants to gain experience with a progressive and dynamic company to further their career.

Job summary:

We have an excellent opportunity for a commercial buyer to assist in the procurement of all Mechanical & Electrical material for all live jobs. You will work closely with our Procurement and Accounts teams in ensuring the smooth transition of all Mechanical orders from Technical Submittal, to full Procurement and finally to final stages of invoicing.


Key responsibilities of the post holder will include:

  •  Obtain the best possible rates for the Mechanical & Electrical materials to stay below the budgetary requirement and procure.
  • Manage the delivery of the Mechanical & Electrical material to site in a clear and professional manner by ensuring all items are available when required on site through the setting-out of an informative draw-off schedule then obtaining completed PODs and resolving any delivery issues which may occur.
  • Ensure all supplier invoices are cleared for payment on a timely manner to maintain the high-level of positive supplier relations expected by the company.
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly checks to ensure all paperwork is up to date, all sites are being efficiently serviced and efficiency remains at the expected high level.
  • Build, manage & maintain relationships with clients, contractors, other construction professionals, suppliers and site staff.
  • Work effectively with the purchasing team.
  • Report to the Procurement Manager daily and directors as required.
  • Develop and implement robust processes and controls to increase efficiency and improve performance.
  • Ensure a safe working environment abiding by all necessary health and safety requirements and legislation.
  • Any other duties required to fulfil the requirements of the position.

Essential Criteria:

  • Similar experience preferably in a construction or Mechanical & Electrical environment.
  • Extensive and demonstrable experience of the management of mechanical orders.
  • Strong experience and excellent working knowledge of Mechanical & Electrical material and components required and rates.
  • Organized and structured approach to your work.
  • Enthusiastic adopter/user of IT systems, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent negotiating skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and cope with a varied portfolio of work, progressing with reduced supervision.
  • Ability to use company accounting system (training will be given).
  • Proven record of delivering on-time quality work within budget and with minimal supervision.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Management of large Mechanical & Electrical material orders including drawing off in batches and its administration work.
  • Previous experience in a procurement role.
