POST REF: SSRC19/45

POST: TECHNICIAN DEMONSTRATOR (SCIENCE)

DURATION: PERMANENT

HOURS: 36 HOURS PER WEEK

LOCATION: NEWRY

(There will be a requirement to travel to other campuses)

GRADE: BAND 3, NJC 14 – 17

SALARY: £17,681 – £18,672

(Placement on the salary scale upon appointment is to the minimum point, progression is by way of annual increment.)

REPORTS TO: HEAD OF SCHOOL/DEPUTY HEAD OF SCHOOL APPLIED SCIENCE AND ACADEMIC STUDIES.

JOB PURPOSE

The post-holder will provide technical workshop/salon/laboratory assistance to lecturers in support of the education and training of students and trainees within all curricular areas.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential

  1. A minimum of NVQ Level 3 Qualification in Chemistry or a relevant business area i.e Forensic Science, Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent qualification)
  2. A pass grade at GCSE Level in English Language or Essential Skills Level 2 in Literacy or an equivalent qualification
  3. A pass grade at GCSE Level in Mathematics or Essential Skills Level 2 in Numeracy or NICATS Access Maths Modules or an equivalent qualification.
  4. A minimum of three years (within the last seven years) relevant industrial experience to include managing stock control.
  5. A working knowledge of a range of software packages including Microsoft Office Suite.

Desirable

  1. A1 Assessors Award or equivalent.
  2. Experience of working with apprentices/trainees/students.

Other Essential Criteria

A full current driving licence which enables you to drive in Northern Ireland, and access to a car for official business purposes.
