Job Summary

To operate and maintain an effective Stores service, as appropriate, including stock purchase, issue, control, storage and inventory records.  A thorough knowledge of stock control, ordering and purchasing systems is essential.  You will source materials, equipment and tools to achieve deadlines at the most competitive price.  In addition to the above you will oversee the implementation of a computerised stores system to raise purchase orders, generate management reports, check delivery notes, confirm received goods, ensure maintenance of stock levels and compatibility with an established accounts system. 

With experience of working in a vehicle/plant store, dealer or supplier environment, you must be able to use your own initiative and have good working knowledge of a range of vehicle and plant parts, stock control and ordering using computerised stock systems.  A full clean driving licence would be regarded as essential to this position, while a Forklift /HGV Licence would be advantageous.  Applicants must have a minimum of three standard G.C.S.E. grade passes or equivalent to include English and Mathematics.

Working Relationships

  • Directly accountable to Stores Controller for day to day duties
  • Directly accountable to Mine Manager in the absence of the Stores Controller
  • Liaise with Heads of Departments in the workplace
  • Liaise with private contractors/sales representatives as necessary

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Source materials, equipment and tools from an approved list of suppliers to achieve delivery deadlines ensuring materials of the highest quality at the most competitive prices.
  • Raise purchase requisitions as required to maintain minimum/maximum stock levels.
  • Check advice and delivery notes against purchase orders to confirm goods received are as ordered.
  • Follow up late, short and replacement deliveries.
  • Issue materials, equipment and tools as necessary ensuring appropriate records are kept and items returned to Stores if required.
  • Regularly reconcile stock records against physical quantities and report variances.
  • Maintain the integrity and security of the restricted stores area, respecting all safety protocols in place ensuring that all materials are stored appropriately, in particular, the safe storage of chemicals, paint, gases and other hazardous products in accordance with COSHH regulations.
  • Adhere to all safe working practices in relation to Health & Safety at Work Policies and Procedures as would be expected in a busy Stores and Garage area.
  • Make recommendations on, implement and maintain a computerised stores system.
  • Utilise Company Vehicles to make collections or deliveries where appropriate.
  • Organize in conjunction with the Stores Controller shift cover and work overtime when required.
  • Maintain working environment in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
  • Assist with surface duties to facilitate the loading of ships and haulage.
  • All other jobs, roles and tasks relevant to this position that may arise.               

Hours of Work: 

39 hours per week Monday to Friday within a shift pattern between the hours of 06.00 and 18.30, as decided by the Company. Candidates must be flexible with regards overtime as this will be expected as and when required.
