 Job Description

An excellent opportunity for a Practice Tax Manager based in Belfast.

Practice Tax Manager

Location: Belfast

Salary: Negotiable dependant on qualifications and experience

About the job

Finegan Gibson Ltd is a rapidly growing practice based on James Street South in Belfast. We provide audit, accountancy, tax and advisory services to a diverse client base and have developed a particular niche in the charity sector.

All of our service lines are experiencing strong growth and we would like to facilitate this growth by recruiting a practice tax manager to play a leading role in an expansion in the range of tax services we offer to our clients.

Tax services are currently overseen by two audit directors but growth has now created the opportunity for a technically strong individual to lead the firm’s tax offering and develop it into a standalone department. An ambitious individual would therefore have the opportunity for rapid career progression with autonomy from the outset.

Initially in this role you would get the opportunity to work in other areas such as audit, accounts preparation and general advisory services should you wish. Your work would therefore change throughout the year so this position would suit an individual that seeks variety in their work.

We have a strong team of 15-20 staff and we place significant importance in creating a working environment which is professional but relaxed. Excellent team spirit and job satisfaction are key objectives that we seek to achieve by being flexible and supportive of our team.

The role is primarily based in Belfast, however some flexibility in relation to travel will be expected to serve our clients across Northern Ireland.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to take a leadership role in a growing firm with excellent progression opportunities.

The key aspects of the role would include:

  • Managing the varied tax requirements of a portfolio of private clients and businesses with whom you would directly liaise
  • Ensuring tax compliance matters are dealt with within statutory deadlines
  • Driving the expansion of our tax service enabling us to offer more ‘value-added’ tax planning advice to our clients
  • Being proactive in terms of identifying opportunities our clients could benefit from
  • Assisting in non-tax engagements such as audits and accounts preparation
  • Managing a team of motivated individuals and monitoring performance on engagements
  • Reporting directly to Finegan Gibson’s Directors
  • Being a key member of management helping to continue our growth and shaping the future direction of the firm

Essential criteria

  • Minimum 5 years experience servicing a portfolio of tax clients
  • Experience of compliance management across the various taxes
  • The ability to be proactive in identifying tax planning opportunities
  • Strong inter personal skills and a history of being client’s point of contact
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Team player

Desirable criteria

  • ACA qualified or equivalent
  • CTA qualified
