Slice is hiring for a Lead Software Engineer who is skilled developer that builds high quality, scalable software and self motivated with the ability to make smart decisions!
What is Slice?
Slice is the easiest way to order authentic local pizza. We serve the $45 billion U.S. pizzeria market in two ways: by providing a pizza-centric mobile and web ordering experience for consumers and by empowering local restaurants with technology that grows their business and helps them compete with Big Pizza. Can you imagine what a local pizza shop could achieve with the resources of Domino’s?
Slice was born in 2011 and has quietly bootstrapped its way to profitability while building a network of more than 10,000 pizzerias nationwide. Ilir Sela, the founder and CEO, started the company as a passion project to help friends and family in the pizza business but he quickly saw a massive opportunity and has built an amazing team of operators, technologists, and investors.
The Ideal Candidate
You are a skilled developer that builds high quality, scalable software. You are self motivated with the ability to make smart decisions and ask questions when necessary. You lead by example and are known as a pragmatic and reliable thinker. You know that the best results are delivered through a combination of leadership, critical thinking and teamwork. You know how to build relationships with stakeholders of all kinds, not just engineers. You are as comfortable discussing the roadmap of the product you are responsible for as much as you are the implementation of the features on that roadmap with your team.
We operate in a dynamic, highly competitive product environment and we need experienced engineers with the right mix of solid engineering fundamentals and great new ideas to come and help us not only compete, but to Win.
Working with seriously good engineering talent, across multiple locations, both on your team and on others, to deliver very high quality software, at scale, and on time.
You will help us build great products and services by leading a team of engineers and taking ownership over your part of the Product roadmap.
Collaborating with the Product team to deconstruct the Product Strategy into deliverable features each with their own metrics for success.
Use your experience in system design and software engineering skills to develop and deploy software that will help drive improvements towards availability, performance, efficiency, and security.
Being the example. Lead your team from the front by being the example of pragmatism, reliability and collaboration.
You will help to train and develop the engineers that you work with today, and also help us recruit the engineers we will work with tomorrow.
You will always be able to find the right balance between planning, mentoring, technical project management and coding features with the team.
7+ years of experience building commercial software in a relevant programming language.
2+ years of Leading engineering teams.
You have a background in one or more of the following:
Highly available web applications.
A migration from a monolithic application into individual lightweight services.
A very regularly updated mobile app with a large install base.
Comfortable in Linux/Unix-like environments for development and production.
History of using solid software development practices and tools such as automated testing, source control, and agile process.
Fluent verbal and written English skills
Positive approach to work, and treat others well.
Ability and experience in mentoring others
Excellent problem solving, analytical and organisational skills
Strong communication skills
Able to clearly express opinions on product design, while respecting the thoughts and opinions of their peers.
Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with engineers and non-engineering stakeholders alike
Passion for technology
Comfortable working in a polyglot environment, focusing on the best tool for the job.
An understanding of building consumer-facing software, including shopping experiences and e-commerce.
We operate like a startup, so being self-motivated, curious, and flexible is a good start. You prefer to come up with your own solutions to problems but are not afraid to ask for help. You enjoy making suggestions for how to improve our product and business, no matter the department. You’re the kind of person who roots for the underdog. And lastly, this job will probably be a lot easier if you have a soulmate-level love for authentic pizza.
