Title: Casual Care Assistant

Casual Basis

£8.21 – £8.92 / depending on experience and qualification

Responsible to: Home Manager / Deputy Home Manager   


Abbeyfield & Wesley are pleased to advertise for a Casual Care Assistants to join our enthusiastic and innovative team based in Palmerston Care Home, Belfast. The successful Candidates will join us at an exciting time in the Association’s development and be key players in the successful delivery of excellent care to our Residents.

Key objectives:

  • Consult with residents and the senior team to assist in developing individual care plans for residents.
  • Work effectively with others within the home to ensure that residents’ needs are met.
  • To ensure each resident receives assistance with all elements of their personal care.
  • To ensure residents choice and independence are respected
  • To help residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities.
  • To help serve meals and assist residents with eating as required.
  • To escort residents to hospital out-patient appointments as required.
  • To participate in the key worker system as defined within the home.
  • Assist as required with events & activities at the Home.
  • To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
  • Understand and observe all relevant regulations and Abbeyfield & Wesley policies and procedures.
  • Be familiar with the administrative records of the Home
  • To follow appropriate procedures in the event of accidents/ emergencies
  • Ensure that the Home is secure at all times whilst on duty.
  • To report and advise the relevant persons with respect to the repairs and maintenance of the home.
  • Ability to keep basic records

Essential Criteria :

  • A relevant NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with people.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • A willingness to undertake further training.
  • Ability to carry out all aspects of the role to a high standard at all times.
  • Experience in a similar role within a health or social care setting.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Working in services for older people.
  • Evidence of continuing training and development.
  • Previous experience and understanding in working with vulnerable adults.
