Finegan Gibson Ltd is a rapidly growing practice based on James Street South in Belfast. We provide audit, accountancy, tax and advisory services to a diverse client base and have developed a particular niche in the charity sector.

All of our service lines are experiencing strong growth and we would like to facilitate this growth by recruiting a part qualified accountant or accounts technician to play a leading role in the delivery and growth of audit and accountancy services. 

This is a mixed role and you would get the opportunity to work across audit, accounts preparation, taxation and general advisory services. Your work would change throughout the year so this position would suit an individual that seeks variety in their work.

We have a strong team of 15-20 staff and we place significant importance in creating a working environment which is professional but relaxed. Excellent team spirit and job satisfaction are key objectives that we seek to achieve by being flexible and supportive of our team. 

The role is primarily based in Belfast, however some flexibility in relation to travel will be expected to serve our clients across Northern Ireland.

The key aspects of the role would include:

  • Accounts preparation
  • Responsibility for a portfolio of personal taxation clients, completion of tax and VAT returns and responding to client queries and requests
  • Involvement in planning and performance of audits primarily in the charitable sector
  • Researching and resolving technical queries from clients
  • Reviewing financial statements
  • Corporate governance reviews
  • Providing outsourced accounting services to clients
  • Grant claim audits
  • Potential secondment opportunities

Essential criteria

  • Part qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent) OR qualified accounts technician
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working in a busy accountancy environment
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Team player

Desirable criteria

  • Audit experience
  • Corporate and/or personal tax experience
  • Accounts preparation experience
  • Experience in the preparation of Charity SORP compliant financial statements
  • Experience of Sage 50 Accounts
