You will thrive, you will think differently, you will challenge convention and have the freedom to act with integrity, intention and speed; you will be at the forefront of developing capabilities in support of Allstate’s global business model; you will deliver results and you will leave things better than you found them.

Location: Belfast

Job Description

We will build solutions primarily with Java, the Spring Framework, HTML5, CSS as well as make extensive use of JavaScript (primarily Node.JS, React).  You might have a greater interest in some of these technologies than others, but we are looking for people who want to make a well-rounded, full stack contribution to every part of a product.  The opportunity exists to broaden your horizons and learn about all the pieces of the stack.

You will work in a balanced and lean team to deliver remarkable results.  We will build software in an XP environment, work in pairs and build all our software using Test Driven Development.  This approach to software engineering drives creativity and innovation and you will experience many technologies and products.

Since work is a huge part of your life, we want it to be interesting (new technologies, learn days, lunch and learns) and fun (company outings and events).  We work hard, support each other, and walk away satisfied.  We keep up with the latest technologies, tools and tricks of the trade – we’re always refining our approach, and everyone has a seat at the table.  We believe in working at a sustainable pace where you will spend most of your day coding, but then you are off work to relax, recharge and refocus.

Selection Process

As part of the hiring process we like to give candidates an experience of what it is like to do some pair programming.  We will work together to build a piece of functionality from the ground up.  Never done TDD? Don’t worry, it’s a great experience and definitely different from any interview you have done before.  As a candidate you won’t have to write any code, your pair will do that as we walk through and agree on the best approach.  Candidates often describe it as the best interview they have ever done.
