Function

The Data Engineer will develop and maintain the data systems that power our next generation cloud and mobile enterprise products. These products traverse both B2B and B2C and help power the processing of tens of millions of online golf rounds per year. This is a high visibility and mission critical role, with the potential to impact the organisations ability to efficiently manage, transform and understand large volumes of online data. You’ll be collaborating across multiple teams across the UK and US to deliver strategic projects and ensure operational excellence in data.

Key Responsibilities

The Data Engineer will be part of a team of Developers/DevOps Engineers and Product Owners in Belfast and Orlando Florida, and the wider Data Services Team in the Orlando Florida. Their main tasks will include:

  • Contributing to the design and development of transactional database schemas, views and stored procedures primarily in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Operational management of large high throughput online databases for both B2B and B2C products.

           Collaborate with US Data Services colleagues to ensure systems are online and operational

           Collaborate with DevOps Teams in US and UK for deployment support.

  • Play a key role in strategic data projects.
  • Interacting with multiple stakeholders spanning Product, Data, Technology and Operations teams.
  • Proactively managing their own tasks to agreed deadlines.
  • Adopting and providing feedback on industry best practices to our development and data services teams.
  • Working with the team to identify innovative ways to improve practices and procedures.
  • Working with a client centred focus, with an emphasis on issue resolution in line with SLAs.

Requirements

It is essential that candidates have:

  • The drive to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.

           Always-On, Log Shipping, Transactional Replication, backup and recovery strategy.

           Execution Plans, query hints, index tuning, Profiler, Extended Events.

           DDL and DML T-SQL development.

  • Experience with Windows PowerShell.

Candidates must also be able to demonstrate:

  • The ability to communicate with other technical and non-technical users.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • The ability to participate in an on-call rotation for production support.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience with high transaction databases.
  • Familiarity of other functional programming languages and data access protocols.
  • Familiarity of source control providers such as GIT or TFS.
  • Knowledge of ETL and ELT methodologies and tools.
  • Knowledge of PCI compliance.
  • Experience with Continuous Delivery for database systems.
  • Experience with NoSQL and open source data platforms (MySQL/Mongo).
  • Familiarity with BI tools like SSRS, PowerBI, Tableau.
  • An interest in golf and/or the golf industry.
