Belfast Met are seeking to appoint a Careers Advisor (Permanent) on a Part Time basis.

Belfast Met’s Careers and Employability Service believes in offering our students great advice about next steps. With help from a range of careers and employability professionals, making good choices and taking those steps can be much easier.

The Careers Advisor will ensure that Belfast Metropolitan College students receive accurate and detailed information in relation to careers education, information, advice and guidance in line with the student pathway.  The will also ensure that appropriate information advice and guidance in relation to Belfast Metropolitan College courses is available at all College open days and proactively outreach a careers advice and guidance service to all Belfast Metropolitan College students across all campuses of the College.

Working Pattern

The opening hours of the Careers Service (term time) are as follows:

Monday – Thursday:08:30-20:00


This is a part-time job-share role where the post-holder will be required to work 18 hours as follows:

Wednesday:12.30 – 16.30 (4 hours)

Thursday: 09.00 – 17.00 (30 min unpaid lunch break, 7.5 hours)

Friday: 09.00 – 16.00 (30 min unpaid lunch break, 6.5 hours)

From time to time, based on business needs, e.g. College Information Days, the post holder may require a more flexible pattern of working hours.

The Careers Service remains open outside term time.  Please note that the post-holder’s hours would remain the same during these periods.

What you need:

Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge

  • Hold a degree (level 6), or equivalent
  • EITHER Have a qualification at NVQ level 6 (or above) in careers, information, advice and guidance PLUS one year’s relevant experience in a post primary education or training environment
  • OR Have a qualification at NVQ level 4 (or above) in careers, information, advice and guidance PLUS two years’ relevant experience in a post primary education or training environment 
  • Extensive recent experience of providing advice and guidance to students.
  • Experience of using IT in a careers education, Information, advice and guidance environment.
  • Experience of developing working partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of analysing data, information and producing relevant reports
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of current careers education, information advice and guidance strategies for students.
  • Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge and experience of both the further and higher education systems and Training / Apprenticeships provision in Northern Ireland.
