Building Services Manager

McLaughlin & Harvey have a vacancy for a Building Services Manager for the Oxford and London area. The Building Services Manager (BSM) is responsible for ensuring the building services are designed, coordinated installed and commissioned in line with the project requirements. In addition to the main duties below, the BSM will undertake other duties as directed by the Contracts Manager (CM).

Main Duties

  • Ensure subcontractors design, coordinate, install and commission the building services in line with current legislation, industry standards and the Employers Requirements, including provision of safe access and maintenance at completion.
  • Ensure commissioning certification is provided, specifically in relation to life safety systems.
  • Support the review and approval of subcontractor safe systems of work.
  • Prepare and approve inspection and test plans, monitor and report on quality of the installation.
  • Provide input for planning and programming to the CM.
  • Manage subcontractors, designers and others to achieve the programme, monitor and review progress regularly and report to the CM.
  • Ensure technical and drawing submittals are issued, approved and equipment procured in line with the programme.
  • Produce regular progress reports
  • Communicate risks to the CM and provide information for contractual communications including potential variations to the works.
  • Undertake regular subcontractor performance reviews
  • Chair subcontractor progress, design, technical and commissioning meetings
  • Provide input for subcontract orders and attend prelet meetings
  • Review design information for adequacy, buildability and value engineering opportunities.
  • Provide input for tenders, participate in interviews and presentations.
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with clients, designers, utility providers, statutory authorities and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the CM and QS are kept appraised of variations to the works and any matter likely to have commercial or contractual implications.

Essential criteria

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience working on healthcare projects at £5-10m
  • Must be prepared to travel throughout the UK
