Duties & Responsibilities

As a Developer you’ll be operating in a small pod. The pod will have responsibility for successful delivery of a release. You’ll deliver code using an agile methodology. We put a lot of trust in our pods to meet on their commitments and find the rhythm and ways of working that suits them.

Our pods are all staffed with a variety of experience. We supplement development expertise with DevOps and Test Automation specialists within the pod, who will help coach the team and make the delivery successful. That means that you might get the chance to develop your DevOps or automation expertise. We emphasise the Dev in DevOps. We like to give you ownership and control of the processes for taking your code into live. Conversely, we want you to also contribute to developing the pod, that might mean sharing your expertise in a tool or tech, coaching other members of the team.

The Person

  • Sound experience working in an agile development team, and applying strong development practices
  • Experience in using fundamental tools and languages E.g. SQL, Unix, CLI tools, PowerShell, Shell Scripting, HTML and CSS.
  • Experience in popular web application frameworks E.g. ASP.NET, PHP, PERL, Ruby, Python, Play, Spark.
  • Experience of external and embedded databases, relational and NoSQL, such as MongoDB, MySQL, Flink, Cassandra, SQL Server, Postgres. Developing schema for supporting business logic and data.
  • Experience in using at least one of the following core technology stacks: Java, .Net, JavaScript/MVC
  • Experience in developing solutions in the cloud, using either AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience in microservices architecture, including an understanding of containers and serverless implementation. This could include Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift, AWS Lambda, Cloud Functions (GCP and Azure).

Education and Qualifications

We value experience, attitude and aptitude over qualification, but typically we see successful candidates in the role who have:

  • An honours degree in a STEM subject
  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics
