Located in our busy Rathfriland shop. We are looking for an experienced and commercially aware retailer to help us strengthen our market position and optimise profitability.
You will be responsible for the effective and efficient day-to-day operational activities of the Hospice Shop. You will be responsible for the provision of excellent service and care to customers, being helpful at all times, cheerful and positive and knowledgeable about the products. You will ensure that the best interests of Southern Area Hospice Services are served in your dealings with donors, customers and volunteers.
To work consistently and creatively to high standards to meet weekly and monthly sales targets and introducing new ideas to maximise profit.
To demonstrate excellent customer service by being polite promoting good practice within the shop.
Promote guidance, feedback and coaching to the shop team.
To sort donated stock between waste, recycle and saleable items, ensuring that appropriate levels of stock are processed to the shop floor to meet income targets.
To price goods according to corporate pricing and merchandising policies.
To co-ordinate the recycling and disposal of non-saleable goods.
To be responsible for a high standard of merchandising and visual display of the stock in the shop and to ensure a regular rotation of stock to optimise the potential for sales.
To create and regularly refresh window displays to reflect seasons and themes, so as to attract customers into the shop.
To promote Gift Aid to all customers and ensure adherence to policy and accurate processing of Gift Aid donations in the shop to maximise profits.
To ensure the hospice shop, stock room and other facilities are clean, tidy and safe at all times.
To analyse trends and patterns and gain knowledge of our competitors to help develop innovative ideas for the sourcing and marketing of stock.
To organise ‘special event’ days in the shop both internally and externally, liaising with corporate teams.
To work in other Hospice shops, pop ups, and attend Craft Fairs/Markets and other events which promote the Hospice occasionally.
To meet required performance standards and targets. Motivating, managing and supporting shop volunteers in the achievement of Key Performance Indicators targets.
Financial & Administration
To be responsible for maintaining all monies following financial procedures, including cash handling, banking and associated administration.
To ensure accuracy in till operating and cash recording in accordance with the Southern Area Hospice’s policies and procedures, reporting any irregularities to the Commercial Retail Manager.
To maintain and analyse sales records and contribute to team meetings regarding stock and sales promotions.
Sole responsibility for the daily operations of the shop which include preparing lodgements, end of day sales, banking takings, generating reports on Gift Aid, stocktakes etc.
Liaise with the Volunteer Co-ordinators and ensure there are adequate numbers of volunteers recruited.
Carry out inductions with volunteers and ensure compliance with health and safety training on shop premises.
Responsible for the supervision, motivation and training of volunteers.
Ensure all volunteers have adequate product knowledge, customer service skills and ability to operate within the agreed financial procedures.
Ensure all volunteers have a clear understanding of Gift Aid requirements and procedures and can both promote Gift Aid and properly complete Gift Aid forms.
Produce and communicate rotas for the shop team to the Commercial Retail Manager, ensuring there is adequate volunteer cover at peak times and over holiday periods.
To attend and contribute positively to retail team meetings at various locations throughout SAHS.
To develop positive working relationships with all shop supervisors and staff to help enhance good team working.
To undertake any other duties as reasonably required by your line manager.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
To be responsible for the security of the shop floor and stock room reporting any irregularities to the line manager.
To ensure SAHS meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented.
Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
