The Risk Partner Teams perform a 'first line of defence' role across Consumer Banking products in the UK, providing advice and guidance to the various Business Units on managing their risks, including escalating risk and control issues to senior management.

This is a 12 month contract opportunity

This role sits within the Governance & Capability Unit under the BOI UK Commercial Director. The CBUK Risk Partner Teams perform a ‘first line of defence’ role across Consumer Banking products in the UK, providing advice and guidance to the various Business Units on managing their risks, including escalating risk and control issues to senior management.

This role will report to the team supporting Transactional Banking, UK Deposits, UK Loans and Northridge Business Units. It will predominantly (but not exclusively) focus on Transactional Banking and Deposits products.

Purpose of the role

As a member of the CBUK Risk Team, the individual is required to build positive, effective relationships with key stakeholders within Business Units, developing their understanding of compliance, regulatory and operational risk matters and influencing decisions to ensure compliant behaviour.

Expertise, advice and guidance will be provided on a wide range of regulatory issues to enable Business Units to understand and fulfil their obligations under the various and complex legislation / codes of practice that governs the way in which it conducts business. The individual is required to ensure guidance is provided in a manner that is proactive, pragmatic and enabling.

Key Accountabilities

  • Proactively engage with key stakeholders to provide contemporary business focussed compliance and risk expertise. Includes input on projects and new business development as required.
  • Identify and recommend improvement initiatives to existing procedures and activity across Business Units, whilst ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and codes of practise.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with the Business and the wider risk community to ensure appropriate co-ordination and delivery of compliance and risk services.
  • Attend project, relationship and governance meetings as required, providing compliance and risk counsel, opinion and advice.
  • Provide support to embed the BOI UK Operational Risk framework. Support completion of Risk Assessment and ongoing review. Oversee Issues and Events including appropriate remedial activity.
  • Report and escalate risk matters as required, making appropriate recommendations to mitigate risks.
  • Provide feedback and regulatory sign off on customer literature and business unit procedures.

Essential skills & experience

  • 3 years financial services regulatory experience with a sound understanding of the regulatory regimes governing Retail UK
  • Experience of dealing with complex problems
  • Able to communicate with people at all levels of the organisation, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to analyse and interpret regulatory documentation
  • Commercial and organisational awareness.

Desirable qualifications skills & experience

  • Experience in a compliance & risk role
  • Certificate in Financial Planning qualification (or equivalent)
