Job Title: Head of Service

Responsible To: Director of Care

Hours Per Week:35 hours per week

Location: Home Based and HQ when required

Salary:£35, 229 per annum (NJC point 39)

Contract: Full Time Permanent

The Role

Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke (NICHS) is the leading service provider of Care Services to people and carers affected by chest, heart and stroke illnesses. Our portfolio of Services will continue to grow and we require a person who will  help lead service development and delivery for those services, as we enter into our new Strategic Planning phase.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced professional, with a proven track record in developing services to people affected by long term conditions; you will also have relevant experience of managing teams of people.

As a Head of Service you will be responsible for managing a team of Care Services Co-ordinators in the North West and Northern Trust area,  assisted by a Senior Care Services Co-ordinator.  Building regional and local relationships with Health and Social Care Colleagues will be a key responsibility. You will work with the other Heads of Service to ensure operational delivery of services across your patch, and to ensure quality of Services across Northern Ireland.

You will also have a regional remit for the development of new Heart Support Services which will be aligned to the overall Care Services Strategy.  You will not need to have specific experience of heart conditions or services, but as NICHS are focused on making an impact  you will be passionate about making a difference through delivering high quality services. 

Main Responsibilities

Service Development

  • To lead the development of new Services across NI, in line with NICHS Strategic Plan;
  • To ensure new and existing Services are in line with NICHS’s Quality and Impact Framework;
  • To develop and deliver effective project plans and action plans;
  • To work in partnership with Health and Social Care colleagues and other stakeholders to develop and deliver effective referral and reporting systems;
  • To collaborate and support the other Heads of Service and the Director of Care in delivering all new service developments at a local and regional level. 

Service Delivery

  • To provide effective leadership and management to your local service team; 
  • To be involved in the recruitment, selection and induction of staff within your service and team areas;
  • To support Care Services staff in the recruitment, induction and management of volunteers;
  • To be responsible for health and safety in locations where services are offered;
  • To ensure all NICHS staff policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to;
  • To contribute to the development of a NICHS-wide improvement in the quality of services, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of services provided by NICHS;
  • To ensure that all services have a distinct and substantial component on secondary prevention and self-management;
  • In conjunction with the Director of Care, develop annual operational plans for each service which contribute to the overall  NICHS strategy; and
  • To ensure the development and achievement of quality standards in all programmes of activity.
