Your new role…

Wholesale Support is a new team within Viridian Technology and Innovation IT Operations function that will be responsible for support and change of the new business critical wholesale software solutions, which will be introduced as part of I-SEM. The team will support a base of approx. 80 business users, who will operate in a complex and fast pace Energy Trading environment.

You will be a highly self-motivated IT professional with a strong ethos of customer focus and getting things done You will play a key role across all aspects of Wholesale Trading Support for the Power NI Supply, Energia and Power NI PPB businesses, working with the Wholesale Support Lead, other IT Managers, Business Owners, Suppliers and internal and external Stakeholders to provide a robust, customer-focused IT platform. IT Support covers applications, communications, networks, infrastructure, security and disaster recovery within the wholesale software solution landscape. You will be involved in support and change of the following applications:

  • OpenLink Endur Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) solution
  • ABB MarketManager and nMarket solutions, settlement and market interface applications
  • Orders and Auctions – a suite of bespoke business applications used to formulate the I-SEM trading activities that feed into the various auctions and markets that the businesses will participate in.
  • Forecasting – a suite of bespoke and off the shelf applications used to forecast business operations and market conditions
  • Data Warehouse –  a Microsoft SQL Server SSIS ETL driven data warehouse and QlikSense reporting front end

Main Duties:

  • Provide support to Power NI Supply, Energia and Power NI PPB businesses within the wholesale software solution landscape
  • Implementation of configuration and small change within the wholesale software solution landscape
  • Triage and fault fix of level 1 and level 2 support tickets raised within the wholesale software solution landscape
  • Act as a bridge between the business and 3rd party vendors describing business issues in technical detail to 3rd party vendors
  • Management and configuration of operational support activities within the wholesale software solution landscape
  • Providing support to business process areas and to the Wholesale Support Lead as required
  • Assist the Wholesale Support Lead to define the cut over to live activities for  small to medium scale applications
  • Providing support to business process areas and to the Wholesale Support Lead as required
  • Provide solution support to the business throughout the application hypercare period
  • Provide technical guidance to the business within the wholesale software solution landscape
  • Liaising with internal customers to define functional and non-functional software specifications for small to medium scale applications
  • Liaise with internal project technical team to define software interfaces, database design, screen wireframes and maintain the application architecture for the project.
  • Create technical documentation for small to medium scale applications for service introduction


Knowledge and Experience:      


  • Understanding of IT processes across the software development lifecycle
  • Experience in addressing and solving IT and business issues with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in supporting or testing business critical software solutions


Understanding of the I-SEM project and the Eirgrid wholesale market systems.

Experience of supporting systems for the Energy and Utility sectors

Working knowledge of any or all of the following:

  • .NET or Java
  • OpenLink Endur
  • MatLab
  • SQL Server SSIS

Experience in using, testing  or supporting energy trading solutions

Additional Requirements/Information:

  • The job requires a considerable degree of commitment, flexibility and adaptability on the part of the job holders to meet quality standards and work deadlines. The individuals must have the ability to think creatively, to innovate and resolve problems.
  • The role may involve a level of on call support outside of normal working hours
  • The hours for this role will be between 7am-7pm on a shift basis
