McQuillan Companies is an NI family owned business which incorporates a diverse range of activities including civil engineering, highway maintenance, quarrying, waste management, outdoor cleaning and winter services.

McQuillan Environmental is a multi site waste and resource management organisation. McQuillan Envirocare Ltd operates one of Irelands most advanced Hazardous Waste Management facilities with chemist lead Hazardous Waste Transfer Station, bespoke Chemical Treatment Facility (CTF) and soil treatment plant all on site. 

We currently have an opportunity for an enthusiastic Site Chemist to join our team based in Antrim. 

Main duties will include:

  • Take guidance from the Senior Site Chemist and Site Manager regarding day to day operations
  • Carry out initial assessments of waste acceptability 
  • Carry out site visits and perform waste inspections and verifications 
  • Take waste samples and submit to the analytical lab
  • Carry out final waste management site identification
  • Comply with all legal requirements 
  • Conduct, evaluate and comply with risk assessments 
  • Drive and operate a forklift where necessary
  • Package materials legally and safely for storage and/or transportation 
  • Under the guidance of the Senior Chemist, assess the suitability of wastes for storage and transportation prior to collection
  • Ensure all waste is handled correctly in accordance with company procedures and legislative requirements 
  • Ensure that all waste is loaded, unloaded and collected correctly 
  • Ensure accurate and up to date collections and recording for the purposes of stock control 
  • Ensure all waste is segregated from non compatible materials and stored in the proper area 
  • Ensure all material on site is stored safely and legally 
  • Record the dispatch of waste in accordance with company procedures 
  • Control the operations of sub-contractors where necessary 
  • Prevent, as far as possible, chemical spills and leaks and ensure that all such incidents are dealt with legally, safely and as quickly as possible

Essential Criteria:
  • Relevant 3rd level qualification
  • Experience in chemical handling, identification and bulking operations 
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001
  • Good time management 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full, clean driving license 

Desirable Criteria:
  • Forklift license with previous experience 
  • LGV/Class 2 License 
  • Working knowledge of the Waste Management industry 
  • Working knowledge of NIEA permitting procedures 

Normal working hours are 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday
