Your new role…

Based in Belfast, you will be a key member of the Legal and Compliance team, providing support on procurement and contract activities across the Viridian Group’s businesses in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. You will report to the Group Head of Legal and Governance and work alongside colleagues in IT, Human Resources, facilities management, retail sales, domestic sales, thermal and renewable generation, and marketing.

You will lead in the delivery of procurement support, contract performance management, contract risk management, and contract change control management cross the Viridian Group. You will be responsible for reinforcing the Viridian Group Procurement Policy and creating and implementing a procurement strategy. You will work on a range of contracts and procurement activities, from multi-million-pound projects to smaller one-off purchases across all business divisions in the Viridian Group. You need to be a proactive self-starter with gravitas and confidence who wants to work in a fast paced business environment. 

This is a new and exciting role being created within the Viridian Group, and you will have a unique opportunity to shape it. The role is of strategic importance to the Viridian Group and accordingly will have a high profile within the business.

Main Duties: 

  • Oversee and manage the purchase of goods, services, equipment and materials across the Viridian Group’s businesses.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a Procurement Strategy for Viridian Group which meets the budgetary, operational, capital and compliance requirements of the Group; cascade Procurement Work Programme procurement category strategies through the Group businesses; turn strategies into implementable plans.
  • End to end tender management including spend analysis and aggregation; identification of cost saving strategies; identification and scoping of end user requirements and drafting of business cases; formulation of pricing structures and evaluation criteria; purchase order creation; tender preparation including OJEU notices, ITT, RFQs/RFPs; contract negotiation; price negotiation; contract management; supplier relationship management.
  • Market testing; supplier review; develop and monitor KPIs; competitive benchmarking; manage and resolve supplier quality, serviceability and performance related issues; ensure suppliers meet, and continue meeting, identified standards/requirements such as ISO accreditation and insurance cover; scheduling benchmarking and supplier reviews in accordance with frequencies detailed in Viridian Group Procurement Policy.
  • Establish interfaces with business functions to ensure the highest level of support and coordination to meet business needs; act as a point of escalation in supplier disputes.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams in relation to EU regulated procurements, including working external financial modellers and lawyers.
  • Develop new methods of processes, challenge the current way of work in terms of purchasing and contract/supplier management; identify innovative solutions to drive a continuous improvement culture.
  • Establish and maintain a contracts register across the Viridian Group business for contracts with a value of up to £5 million. Supporting colleagues in Legal and Compliance in maintaining the corporate contracts register for contracts in excess of £5 million.

Knowledge and Experience:      


  • MCIPS or have attained at least CIPS level 4 diploma
  • Proven procurement experience in a comparable role; it is not essential that this experience is gained in regulated procurement
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong commercial awareness
