Your new role…

Based in Belfast, you will be a key member of the Legal team, providing comprehensive and proactive legal support across the Viridian Group’s businesses in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. You will report to the Group Head of Legal and Governance and work alongside colleagues specialising in Data Protection, corporate development, corporate governance and corporate compliance.

You will be responsible for providing legal advice on a range of commercial, contract and procurement matters as well as occasional dispute resolution management. You will work closely with business colleagues in IT, HR, trading, finance, regulation, generation and renewables, retail sales, domestic sales, and marketing.

You need to be a proactive self-starter with presence and confidence who wants to work in a fast paced business environment. You need to have excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of commercial acumen. You need to have the ability to grasp new concepts quickly and to distil legally complex issues into practical, commercial and compliant solutions in a way that engages key stakeholders.

 Main Duties:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial contracts including:

-Preliminary agreements such as confidentiality agreements, heads of terms and letters of intent.

-Sales, agency and marketing contracts; event and brand sponsorship agreements.

-Service contracts, outsourcing services agreements, framework services agreements, service level agreements, and consultancy agreements.

-Supply of goods agreements, general terms and conditions of supply in the context of business to business and business to customer, purchase order terms and conditions, and energy rates contracts.

-Agreements for the purchase of IT services and/or IT equipment, data licence agreements, software licence and maintenance agreements, managed service agreements, software development agreement, and proof of concept agreements.

-Variation agreements, termination agreements, assignment agreements, novation agreements, payment guarantees and performance guarantees.

  • Supporting Viridian’s corporate development team in reviewing and advising on confidentiality agreements, heads of terms, collaboration agreements, joint venture agreements, asset purchase agreements, share purchase agreements, shareholder agreements and powers of attorney.
  • Supporting Viridian’s renewables development team in reviewing and advising on power purchase agreements, construction contracts, turbine supply agreements, operation and maintenance agreements, land leases, and land option agreements.  
  • Supporting Viridian’s procurement activities, to include advising on appropriate contract forms, applicability of regulated procurement regime, procurement processes, OJEU notices, PQQs, ITTs and ITNs, contract approvals process, and participation in legal evaluations.
  • Supporting Viridian’s business and its designated specialist teams in compliance with Data Protection, Information Security and its internal corporate compliance protocols.
  • Managing Viridian’s external lawyers, producing legal tender specifications, evaluating legal tenders, monitoring external legal spend, and acting as a key point of liaison between external lawyers and business colleagues on complex matters and corporate projects.

Knowledge and Experience:      


  • NI, E&W, Scottish, Irish, or comparable jurisdiction qualified lawyer
  • At least 3 years PQE in a commercial or corporate role
  • Excellent academics; training and experience at a top commercial law firm an advantage


  • In house legal experience
  • Knowledge and experience of the energy industry
  • Knowledge and experience of advising on procurement, IP/IT, data protection and/or corporate acquisitions
  • Knowledge and experience of advising on financial derivatives such as ISDAs, EFETs, etc., and EMIR reporting requirements
