CNC Machinist Grade 3

Position Summary

Magellan Aerospace, Greyabbey has an exciting opportunity for CNC Machinist Grade 3.

  • Full Time Permanent Contract
  • 24/7 shift pattern with a weekly average of 42 hours per week.
  • Job location: Greyabbey, County Down BT22 2QE
  • Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.

Operation of CNC machines to machine aircraft component parts to customer specification in an efficient, effective and safe manner.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Operation of CNC machines – multi machine operation is required on all shifts
  • Inspect work to drawings and technical data supplied. Use Inspection equipment to dimensionally inspect work (wherever appropriate).
  • Maintain Job Pack completeness and record all quantity and quality and cycle time requirements
  • Undertake daily checks and maintain the machines / equipment as per work instructions provided – reporting any machine failure or corrective maintenance requirements.
  • Provide accurate cycle time for all products with operations required.
  • Cross check the prior operations on job cards ensuring they are completed prior to starting any operations and alert Team Lead if any variances.
  • Report and complete non-conformance reports for any product that does not meet specification
  • Provide accurate information for the next shift if any deviation to production schedule to ensure production targets are achieved.
  • Work with a minimum amount of supervision whilst maintaining expected levels of productivity
  • Continually review working practices to remove and reduce waste and non- value added activities
  • Actively support and contribute to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing.
  • Positively support team work and circulation of experience within the workforce.
  • Undertake daily checks and maintain equipment as per work instructions provided – reporting any failures or corrective maintenance requirements whilst maintaining responsibility for secure storage of tools in cell.
  • Work in a safe manner in compliance with the Health & Safety policy. Report and log all Health & Safety incidents that occur.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in work area.
  • Support implementation and compliance of 6S in work area.
  • Any other duties as assigned by management, shift lead, team lead and production supervisor.

Position Requirements

Academic:

  • Desirable – NVQ Level 3 (Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering – time served qualification.
  • The job requires a basic level of education, numeracy and literacy.

Experience:

Essential – The job requires knowledge and operation of CNC machines gained over a minimum of 4 years’ experience and on the job training, the equivalent of an apprenticeship.

  • Preferred ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Working knowledge of specifications, SOP’s and Work Instructions
