St Teresa’s Youth Centre is a Full time Voluntary Youth Provider serving the Glen Road/ Andersonstown areas and beyond for over 40 years. The Centres wishes to appoint a Young women’s participation worker. (Funded by BBC CIN)
St Teresa’s Youth Centre – Young Women’s Participation Worker
Post: Young Women’s Participation Worker – 1 post (Funded by BBC Children In Need for 36 Months)
Location: This post covers the Glen Road/ Andersonstown Areas and will be attached to St Teresa’s Youth Centre
Responsible to: Senior Youth Worker
Accountability: Representatives from St Teresa’s Youth Centre’s Management Committee, Young People, Representatives from the local community.
At present St Teresa’s Youth Centre is attempting to bring about closer collaboration and more effective management and co-ordination among local services through better strategic planning, deployment of people and focusing of resources to support the following outcomes:
Young Women’s Participation Worker to address the under representation of young women accessing youth centre facilities and programmes
Improved collaboration with other boards, education partners, health and social services boards and trusts and others, in meeting the needs of young women in the transitional period from adolescence to adulthood
The increased participation of young women in youth activities providing opportunities for their personal and social development;
Innovation across board service to meet the changing educational, social and welfare needs of young women
Meeting the needs of socially disadvantaged and marginalized young women across the youth service age range
Involvement of parents and the local community
Ongoing development of community relations work within the youth services with particular emphasis on the participation of young women
Through needs assessment and in consultation with the local community, the person appointed will be responsible for the creation of opportunities and initiatives focussed on group work, community relations, gender work and other areas relating to the youth work curriculum, which will enhance opportunity for the personal and social development of young women.
Requirements: The post holder will be required to have:-
General Duties: Under supervision the person will:-
1 Work with young women and assist in enabling them to develop a suitable range of personal and social skills.
2 Within the Andersonstown area the worker will assess the needs, provide advice and support and liaise with those organisations best suited to aid the inclusiveness and participation of young women in our programme and provision
3 To work directly with young women in all appropriate settings to ensure the optimum take up of advice and provision
4 To work with other adult staff in a team, to provide a programme of activities, services and facilities to deliver the youth service curriculum to young women.
5 It is expected that workers will avail of relevant training offers, either accredited or non-accredited. To undergo a comprehensive induction programme.
Salary: £20,000 year 1, £21,000 year 2 and £22,000 Year 3
Hours of Duty: 30 hrs per week to be worked daytime, evenings and weekends.
