Project Engineer

Orby Engineering Limited is a long-established company with over 60 years of manufacturing experience.  We are part of the Exact Group and operate from bespoke engineering workshops in Newry, applying aerospace technology to manufacture a range of livestock feeding equipment to the agricultural sector.

Key Objectives

Good engineering skills required, and a good agricultural/ engineering background would be an advantage. This is a hands-on job that offers a diverse work interest with future opportunities for the right person.

For new and existing product design and ongoing product improvement you will be contributing towards the design activities to continually upgrade and improve the range of standard product designs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Development of new and existing product lines
  • Assist with project assessment and review of customer requirements
  • Ability to design and sketch new products
  • Producing detailed drawings and designs
  • Creation of bill of material records including standard and non-standard parts
  • Provide input to and contribute to standard product design improvements
  • Provide support with prototype builds, lab and field validation, and issues resolution

Key Skills and Experience

This role is ideally suited to an organised, proactive and self-motivated individual with lots of enthusiasm and a desire to succeed. Suitable candidates will have:

  • Mechanical associated degree (e.g. Agricultural/Engineering etc.) or shop floor experience
  • Draughting experience using 3D SolidWorks/CAD/CAM/AutoCAD etc.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical related issues
  • Hands on approach
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of and ability to work to tight project deadlines
  • Comfortable with full range of PC office software applications
  • Good time management skills
  • Manufacturing experience beneficial but not essential


•             Highly Competitive salary will be dependent on experience – £20k to £35k per annum
