Payroll Controller

Devenish is a leading innovative, international agri-food technology business with a vision of ‘Making your world a better place’.

We are headquartered in Belfast and have manufacturing sites in Belfast, throughout the UK, US, Turkey and Africa. 

Devenish now employs over 500 people globally and has significant international growth plans. We have an immediate requirement for a Payroll Controller with strong payroll knowledge and experience, and an ambition to grow and develop further.

The Role

This role is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who possesses a positive ‘can do’ attitude and enjoys driving improvements while expanding their knowledge.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, results-driven payroll professional with a solid UK payroll background ideally with experience in RoI payrolls, and potentially dealing with outsourced international payrolls. 

Key Duties

  • Taking control and managing the payroll function including delivery of UK weekly and monthly payrolls, overseeing the fully managed payroll provision for RoI and other international locations as required
  • End-of-year processing and reconciliation including payment summaries
  • Production of P11D’s and P60’s and associated reporting
  • Processing of P45’s, P46’s as appropriate
  • Maintain and reconcile payroll records
  • Preparing month end payment of PAYE to Inland Revenue and payroll journals
  • Preparation and monitoring of the pension requirements including the creation of monthly pension amounts to be submitted
  • Dealing with payroll queries and be the contact for HMRC
  • Assisting HR with pay and benefits projects as required
  • Reporting on various metrics eg absence
  • Review current payroll systems and consider and implement improvements as required
  • Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required from time-to-time

What we are looking for

Essential Criteria

You should be able to demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:

  • Strong UK payroll experience 
  • Payroll experience in multi-jurisdictions ie UK and RoI
  • Sound knowledge of payroll and good practice, and evidence of maintaining up-to-date knowledge of same
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build constructive working relationships with all levels in an organisation
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities with an ability to demonstrate sound judgment
  • Results driven with sound business judgment
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise effectively and work under pressure
  • Strong IT Skills including experience in the uses of payroll systems with extracting reports, maintaining information and development of current systems to meet business requirements

Desirable Criteria

Although not essential, ideally you should possess the following attributes:

  • Payroll qualification
  • Experience with delivery of international payrolls
  • Experience in implementation of a payroll system
