Job Description

As part of a technology transformation Allstate is building a global agile workforce, called CompoZed. We have an in-house network of globally empowered product teams. CompoZed teams follow a consistent and innovative process resulting in products that better meet user needs, provide speedier delivery and greater quality.  This includes agile and extreme agile software development, cross-functional product teams and leveraging our cloud platform and cloud native applications.

Responsibilities include (but aren’t limited to):

As an XP software engineer you will be skilled technically and with the ability to work in a paired environment.

You can be active across DevOps, front-end, back-end and mobile software solutions.

As part of CompoZed at Allstate NI you will work in a balanced and lean team to deliver remarkable results. You will be highly focused on test driven development and continuous delivery.   This approach to software engineering drives creativity and innovation so you will experience many technologies and products.

We work in small, collaborative and product focused teams where we own and manage running our applications in production, and ultimately become accountable for the success of our products. We believe in working at a sustainable pace where you will spend most of your day coding, but then you are off work to relax, recharge and refocus.

Selection Process

You will attend a paired programming assessment where we will put your problem solving and coding skills to use.

Essential Criteria

  • Must be an EU citizen or possess a current UK Tier 1 Visa or Tier 2 visa and eligible to take up full time, permanent employment
  • Minimum of 2 years development experience in one of the following:
  • modern web
  • mobile
  • cloud

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in API development, Web Services (RESTful, SOAP), security authorisation
  • Java, Javascript, Swift
  • Node JS
  • Spring Framework, Spring Boot or Spring MVC
  • Cloud Platform development
  • Mobile application development
  • Degree (IT preferable) or where no degree held 5 years relevant experience
  • Experience within an agile development environment (e.g. XP, Scrum, Kanban).
  • Test Driven Development and Automated Testing Tools
  • Web front end development (CSS, HTML)
  • CI / CD Pipeline usage (Jenkins, Gradle, Maven, Artifactory)
  • Version Control Tools
  • Design Patterns

Candidates should also be able to demonstrate a passion for learning, learning agility, excellent problem solving and communication skills.

Hours of Work:

Candidates should review the CompoZed Lab working hours below and if submitting an application the assumption will be made that applicants are willing and can commit to the following hours:

  • Full time
  • Office based 5 days a week
  • Core hours are 10 am – 5pm Mon-Thurs and 10am – 4pm Fri

The above is a revision CompoZed core hours and is part of a pilot beginning January 2018.

With a successful pilot (i.e no measurable impact to XP productivity), these new hours will be adopted fully going forward. As before, it is expected the necessity for on call or weekend working will remain very limited.

In the unlikely event Compozed Leadership feel the above hours does impact productivity candidates will have to revert to previous hours (9-530 and no compressed fortnight).
