About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated Graduate Scientist to join our Water Environment Team based in Letterkenny, reporting into the main Belfast office. Working within a large team of civil engineers, drainage modellers, environmental specialists, and hydrogeological specialists this role will involve river habitat surveys; undertaking/managing field work in the area of hydrology, water quality or aquatic ecology; water quality assessment; environmental assessment with a particular focus on water/aquatic environment and GIS analysis, mapping and data management. There will also be report writing and you will help with day to day project management, attending client meetings as required.
Suitable candidates will possess a (Masters) Degree in environmental science or engineering and ideally be Chartered or working towards Chartership with a relevant institution (CIWEM, CIEEM, CIWM). You will have min 2 years’ experience working for a consultancy in a similar role, possess excellent communication and organisational skills and be proficient in report writing. Evidence of working well independently and as part of a team is vital. A strong understanding and proven experience of surveys, assessments, GIS analysis and/or catchment management schemes is required along with sound knowledge of environmental legislation including Water Framework Directive, SEA, EIA, Birds and Habitats Directives. Suitable candidates will be experienced using GIS and AutoCAD and be able to provide technical reviews of deliverables. You should demonstrate proven project management skills (on time and to budget) and be able to identify, appraise and mitigate water quality management options. A full driving licence is essential and knowledge of peat catchment drainage and assessment is advantageous.
