Job Title: Area Youth Worker 1 (Fresh Start)

Job Location: Kilcooley, Clandeboye & Conlig

Post Status: The post is offered on a temporary basis until 31 March 2021.

Salary: £27,670 – £29,969 per annum. JNC Prof Range Pts 18-21

Hours per week Successful applicants will be required to work a total of 36 hours per week (10 sessions).  Four sessions must be worked in the evening (after 6 pm) in a face to face situation with young people/adults.  Regular weekend commitments will also be necessary for the successful achievement of the post’s objectives.

Job Duties

The Area Youth Worker will have responsibility for the management of youth work programmes across the designated area, in line with Education Authority policies. They will engage young people who are vulnerable to paramilitary groups as a result of their risk-taking behaviour. The programme will be of a developmental nature, targeting those from 12-25 years of age (with preference for 12-18 years).

Qualifications/Experience          

Applicants must meet the following by the closing date for receipt of completed applications:

1)      Be qualified youth workers according to current JNC (Youth and Community Worker) regulations;

AND

2)      Have a minimum of  2 years’ youth work experience in a Youth Centre or Youth Project;

AND

3)      Have a minimum of  1 year’s experience of line managing volunteers;

AND

4)      Have experience in the delivery of training courses;

AND

5)      Have recent experience of working with young people whose risk-taking behavior leaves them vulnerable to paramilitary groups or criminal gangs.

It is desirable that applicants have the following by the closing date for receipt of completed applications;

  • Have knowledge of and contact with communities within the designated area

The criteria may be enhanced.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will be required:

a)       To have access to a suitable vehicle (appropriately maintained and insured for Education Authority business) that will enable them to carry out the mobility requirements of the post in an efficient and effective manner and thus meet this essential criterion;

OR

b)      Be able to provide sufficient information on the application form that will satisfy the employer that he/she has access to an appropriate alternative form of transport that will enable them to carry out the mobility requirements of the post in an efficient and effective manner and thus meet this essential criterion.
