What it’s like to work here

The National Trust in South Down covers two main sites; Castle Ward and Murlough Nature Reserve. Castle Ward is an 820 acre historic demense on the shores of Strangford Lough comprising landscaped gardens, a fortified 17th century tower house, Victorian laundry, working corn mill and an 18th century Mansion House.

Murlough Nature Reserve is a wild and breathtakingly ancient dune ecosystem unique in Ireland. The boardwalk that network protects this fragile landscape weaves through the rich mosaic of flora and fauna before revealing miles of unspoilt beach.

Our Visitor Experience team delivers inspirational education programmes to learners which bring to life the importance of these amazing places including their history and environment.

What you’ll be doing

Visitors are a vital part of what we do. As the Visitor Welcome Assistant it’s your role to create a warm visitor welcome and deliver compelling learning programmes which will engage and inspire learners from a wide range of ages and ability, including programmes linked to the National Curriculum for schools. Supporting the Visitor Experience Team, you will deliver a series of interactive programmes including, but not limited to, historic role play, environmental learning, seasonal crafts and IT based learning.

You’ll be working indoors and outdoors in both Castle Ward and Murlough Nature Reserve and assisting with activities related to visitor programmes as required, ensuring that all our visitors have a safe and memorable experience.

Whilst we welcome candidates from all backgrounds, those with skills, experience and knowledge of education, visitor interpretation and audience engagement would find this role particularly rewarding.
