The Merchant Hotel are recruiting for a Business Development Executive

The Merchant Hotel is the only AA 5 Red star hotel in Northern Ireland, it’s situated in the heart of Belfast’s historic Cathedral Quarter and has 62 deluxe bedrooms and suites, a dedicated meetings and events floor and seasonally themed roof garden along with a range of food and beverage offerings, a luxury spa and gymnasium.

Due to a recent restructure of the sales team we have 2 exciting opportunities for passionate and proactive individuals with drive and ambition to succeed.

Business Development Executive

The role is to develop new business opportunities and drive revenue into the hotel. The successful candidate will be responsible for targeting new clients and to build and nurture relationships with clients that are already booking us. Working closely with the Business Development Manager our ideal candidate should be self-motivated and confident, have excellent communication skills, a proactive approach and will not hesitate in picking up the phone to make calls.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone that is passionate and sales orientated.

The role will involve:

  • Proactively selling the hotel which involves outgoing sales calls and appointments to prospective customers and existing customers in the local and national markets to maximise sales opportunities
  • Building and developing relationships with key clients and agents
  • Creating and following up on new business opportunities through research, weekly telesales calls (as per agreed target) and networking within Belfast and Northern Ireland, ROI and GB
  • Qualified, weekly face to face client appointments and show rounds to source new business and develop current business
  • Securing residential (and non-residential) ‘group’ business by networking with clients and actively targeting key DMC and MICE agents with sales calls and visits
  • Prompt response to sales enquiries and sending accurate, clear and well-presented proposals and ensuring these are followed up and converted
  • Some travel involved in representing the hotel at various workshops and tradeshows along with own sales calls – primarily within NI, ROI and UK markets
  • Conducting hotel sites visits and client entertaining as required
  • To generate activity levels required to achieve personal and team targets in addition to the overall hotel budget

 

The essential criteria:

  • 2 years ‘proactive’ sales experience in hotels / hospitality in a target driven market
  • Proven track record of successful business development and achieving sales targets
  • Self-motivated, passionate and driven about the role and the duties involved with a proactive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Confidence in approaching new customers
  • Proven track record of customer care on the phone and in person
  • Articulate and well presented with excellent social skills
  • High level of attention to detail towards work
  • Willingness and ability to travel to establish and maintain client relationships, mainly within Ireland and UK
  • Clean driving licence and access to own car
  • Computer literate

Desirable Criteria

  • 2-3 years’ experience with a similar client base
  • Knowledge of Protel
  • Previous experience working with the MICE market
