Excellent opportunity for a Porter based in Belfast

Porter (full-time, fixed-term until 30 September 2019)

Responsible to: Security & Portering Supervisor  

Job Purpose: To provide general porterage of goods, furniture and equipment, including delivery and collection of mail and packages to and from the buildings, ensuring no unauthorised person enters campus buildings, preparing rooms and assisting event organisers, ensuring that windows are closed, lights and appliances are switched off and locking the buildings, etc.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.General porterage of goods, furniture and equipment in campus buildings, to include; delivery and collection of mail and packages to and from the buildings.

2.Carrying out random checks of identity of visitors, lecturers and students to ensure that no unauthorised person enters campus buildings.

3.Preparation of rooms for conferences and seminars and assisting organisers during the event as required.

4.Ensuring that internal doors and all windows are closed and all lights and appliances have been switched off before locking the buildings.

5.Driving the College van to make deliveries on and off campus as required and to keep the vehicle clean at all times and to complete and maintain all related paperwork.

6.During heating season, checking each morning that heat has penetrated the building and if not, reporting the matter to the Security & Portering Supervisor or Estates Department.

7.On a daily basis, checking buildings for defects e.g. cleaning, broken windows and locks, loose tiles, toilet overflows, lights not working, safety hazards etc. and report to the Security & Portering Supervisor or Estates Department as necessary.

8.Keeping foyers, entrance halls and the areas in the vicinity of campus buildings clean, tidy and free of litter.

9.Replacing washroom consumables in toilets as necessary.

10.Adjusting battery operated clocks and where necessary, replacing batteries.

11.Undertaking overtime duties as required.

12.Assisting the Drama Theatre Technician with theatre set ups as required.

13.Attendance on duty when premises are being used by outside organisations to include student functions.

14.Whilst on duty the Porter must carry and take calls on a mobile telephone issued by Stranmillis University College.

15.To open and close rooms as requested and manage the issuing of keys and to ensure that all keys are signed for when being issued and returned.

16.Administering first aid as required (training will be provided.)

17.Meet, greet and direct campus visitors to requested destinations.

18. Complete accident and incident reports if and when necessary.
