Build, maintain and develop relationships with a Portfolio of Accounts to secure profitable renewals and generate new business in line with agreed area/segment strategies, underwriting the associated cases within agreed authority limit, processes and risk appetite.

ROLE PURPOSE

  • Deliver underwriting decisions and contribute to managing accounts, account plans and business development activities.
  • Use your strong analytical, relationship management and communication skills to manage the underwriting of a portfolio of accounts.
  • Work with regional and local underwriting colleagues developing and improving underwriting policies, procedures and practices, whilst maintaining appropriate standards.
  • Use your analytical and communication skills to prepare and deliver timely, accurate and relevant information.

We’re looking for a positive and enthusiastic person with 5+ years underwriting experience, preferably motor, on a full time basis 35 hours per week, to join our technical motor underwriting team. We need you to be able to evidence strong technical decision making, ability to share this knowledge with others and awareness of the local insurance market.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Underwriting complex cases following agreed processes to secure profitable business;

  • Leading and/or contributing to technical audits and peer review processes;
  • Providing expert advice, guidance and coaching to less experienced colleagues to address technical referrals;
  • Collecting, collating, analysing and modelling a variety of Portfolio related data – identifying trends and variances;
  • Contributing to the wider development of effective business strategies and market propositions – drawing on own knowledge of local markets;
  • Understanding customer requirements and proactively managing your customers’ expectations to achieve 100% satisfaction
  • Engaging in the identification, prioritisation, negotiation and winning of new account relationships and contribute to the development and monitoring of account plans;
  • Providing advice and guidance on policy wordings;
  • Managing complaints;
  • Supporting the Portfolio Lead in the development and management of risk strategies, performance & long-term development of portfolio;
  • Managing the administration associated with risk plans and Group and Regional Licensing framework;
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of accurate Technical procedures, process manuals and document standards;
  • Processing work utilising in-house technology to achieve productivity targets
  • Supporting others in sharing of best practice.

Working within a busy team of 3 Motor Technical Underwriters, you will contribute to the delivery of the team targets by achieving your own objectives effectively.

THE PERSON

  • You’ll need to be a driven and motivated team player with a hardworking can do attitude and a passion for delivering excellent customer service
  • You’ll need lots of initiative, an affinity for problem solving as well as an ability to work to set targets and remain calm under pressure.
  • You will also be able to organise and prioritise your workload effectively.
  • Naturally you will be an expert communicator who can relate well to customers and colleagues alike.
  • Finally a high level of enthusiasm, resilience and a good sense of fun will stand you in good stead.
  • As this is a technical position we are seeking 5+ years in an underwriting role.
  • Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel to an Intermediate level
  • Ideally hold a CII (or equivalent) qualification or working towards this
  • Experience of successfully resolving referrals from colleagues
