Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong Excel skills to work on the internal Excel policy rating applications. These applications are used by a wide range of Allstate functions and teams to perform complex rating of policies. The applications are based on policy data extracted directly from Enterprise database systems and applying a wide variety of user input parameters to drive the rating calculations.

The role will involve support and maintenance of existing Excel rating applications as well as development work on new and existing ones. You will be required to have experience dealing with communications in a technology driven environment. You should be willing and able to bring new ideas to the table and have a passion for working with people and understand their technology needs. You must be able to clearly communicate in various different formats for maximum understanding and impact.

Key responsibilities of the role will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop and maintain stand-alone rating tools that independently rate and validate policies and scenarios
  • Under minimal direction, conduct testing to ensure that all products and services meet organization standards and business requirements
  • Provide technical knowledge and support to end users under minimal supervision
  • Collaborate with other team member and business units to resolve technical issues and provide solutions
  • Manage the technical support expectations of customers through maintaining clear communication and taking effective action
  • Create and maintain knowledge management documentation and reporting functionality
  • Build, cultivate and maintain long-term business relationships
  • As this is a particularly busy team you may also be required to assist in achieving wider team goals/targets.
  • The role will be based out of ANI, working alongside the existing Excel Rater team based in US so may require some occasional travel to the US.

Standard hours Mon – Fri (Full Time)

Essential criteria: candidates should clearly state on their application form how they meet each of the essential criteria as these will be assessed during shortlisting and only these deemed to meet all of the below criteria will move forward to the next stage.

  • Demonstrated advanced Excel knowledge including macros and complex formulae
  • 1-2 years related industry experience or Degree level qualified
  • Have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead/drive conversations and meetings
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly between diverse groups of technical and non-technical individuals (verbal and written)
  • Be a self-starter with the ability to take ownership of work assigned to you, effectively lead, organize and prioritize that work, ensuring completion to a high quality.

Must be an EU Citizen or possess a current UK work visa which entitles the holder to take up full time employment.

Desirable Criteria: These criteria may be used where we have a high number of applicants

  • 6 months or more application development experience;
  • Degree in Computer Science or related area
  • Experience programming with Visual Basic/VBA;
  • Knowledge of Insurance Industry preferred
