Title:Director of Fundraising

Reports to:Managing Director

Type of Post:Permanent Full Time

Salary:Salary negotiable and commensurate with experience

Position Summary:

To strategically plan, agree, manage and achieve Ulster Orchestra fundraising targets.

Role

The Director of Fundraising (DoF) will be responsible for:

  • Overall management of the day-to-day delivery of all UO fundraising activities
  • Positively engaging with, and supporting, the UO Foundation
  • The delivery of fundraising targets in partnership with the Managing Director
  • Increasing the overall level of fundraising experience, skills and buy-in across the organisation
  • Main activities will include development and delivery of:
  • Individual giving and donations e.g. Chair Endowment programme / Patrons’ scheme
  • High net worth donations
  • Sponsorship and corporate fundraising
  • The Corporate Membership Scheme
  • Fundraising for the Learning and Community Engagement programme
  • The trust funds and foundations’ fundraising programme for revenue
  • Scheduled fundraising events – their programming and management

Main Tasks:

  • To develop, manage and implement a robust and sustainable Ulster Orchestra fundraising strategy
  • To agree achievable fundraising income targets, including a stretch target for new income
  • To oversee and deliver proposals for trusts and foundations and sponsors, in line with the UO fundraising strategy
  • To identify areas of research which will generate new sources of income
  • To oversee the development and maintenance of up-to-date databases of clients, sponsors, charities and fundraising bodies and use them creatively to support the work of the Department
  • To be responsible for the management and delivery of all hospitality, relationship management and recognition for sponsors, donors and other supporters of UO and to ensure that the reputation and good name of UO is promoted and enhanced
  • To ensure that fundraising activities are effectively timetabled and deadlines are met
  • To oversee, but also encourage and where appropriate advise and support, other members – in particular UO Board Members and Trustees of the UO Foundation
  • To prepare and, where appropriate, present reports to the UO Board and UO Foundation
  • To carry out any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Managing Director

1.Skills/Knowledge

1.1.The ability to communicate and negotiate with senior and professional people in the business, charity and local government sectors

1.2.The ability to write coherently and persuasively

1.3.The ability to write accurate reports

1.4.The ability to use all forms of media communication effectively and efficiently

1.5.The ability to use diplomatic and social skills in a wide range of environments and to exploit these to develop productive business relationships

1.6.The ability to be hospitable and deliver hospitality to a wide range of people

1.7.The ability to use PC, spreadsheet and other software to a high standard     

1.8.The ability to prepare and manage budgets

1.9.The ability to lead a team, to motivate and generate enthusiasm in others   

2.Experience and Training

2.1. A knowledge of the principles of fundraising and significant experience of working to meet fundraising targets.

2.2.Preferably a minimum of 5 years’ relevant professional experience (in any discipline, not necessarily music or the arts)

2.3.Preferably knowledge of potential funders in Northern Ireland         

3.Work Related Circumstances 

3.1.Willingness to work irregular hours – evenings, weekends and bank holidays
