Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Role:

To manage the initiation and delivery of client projects to schedule, quality and budget


Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Project Delivery

  • To ensure the delivery of the programme of projects to required schedule, quality and budget     

  • To work with clients to define upgrades from estimation, approval through to delivery for all client requests on existing platforms and installed products

  • To ensure that all project work is carried out in accordance with the HighWire processes, agreed Roles and Responsibilities, and project management processes

  • To ensure that client requirements and inputs are gathered, interpreted, and communicated effectively in order to build shared big-picture understanding of products and projects across the delivery team

  • To ensure that all project work is prioritised by the business and actioned according to business priorities

  • To ensure the clear communication of project status, risks and issues to internal and external stakeholders

  • To actively contribute to continual process improvement

Supporting other areas of the business

  • To participate in key stages of the Sales process as required to provide key input for bids and proposals       

  • To ensure the provision of adequate budgetary analysis  to support Finance as required


Experience Required


  • Worked directly with clients to deliver projects clients in a customer-focused environment         

  • Managed delivery of complex digital/technical projects in a high pressure environment  

  • Delivered multiple concurrent projects to schedule, quality and budget    

  • Managed multiple internal and external stakeholders         

  • Delivered projects with budgets with values up to £500K    

  • Experience in process improvement and change management       

Experience Desirable

  • Worked within the scholarly publishing sector

  • Knowledge of / interest in issues relating to academic research and dissemination of academic research

  • Experience of working in a fast growing and changing business


Skills and abilities required

  • Commercial awareness         

  • Knowledge of the concepts, tools and principles of digital product development   

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, frameworks and processes used in the design and development of digital products

  • Understanding of the detail of digital/technical project implementation

  • Understanding of the development of complex content software using a variety of development methods and frameworks     

  • Ability to think creatively to arrive at workable solutions under pressure and to multi-task       

  • Collaborative and relationship building skills          

  • Strong communication skills at all levels, both internal and external

  • Excellent prioritisation and decision-making skills

  • Integrity, personal judgement and gravitas

Qualifications essential

  • Degree, Digital Media, Publishing, Project Management, Agile or equivalent experience

Qualifications desirable

  • Formal project management training in a recognised methodology (PRINCE2, Scrum, etc). JIRA system knowledge
