Job Title: Commercial Analyst  

Location: Component Distributors Group Ltd 

Department: Operations

Responsible to: Group Business Manager 

Introduction / Overview

The Component Distributors Group is the largest wholesale distributor of vehicle replacement spares in Ireland. As part of our continued development we are currently recruiting for a Commercial Analyst to play a key role in our business. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and friendly team that will support business improvement through the provision of data analysis. The successful candidate will be required to develop, monitor and report data analysis findings regularly through both standard reporting and ad-hoc projects. As a Commercial Analyst, you must have excellent attention to detail, a forward-thinking approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.

Job summary / Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise in data manipulation and financial modelling that translate data into actionable information
  • Understanding business requirements versus needs, data mining and trend analysis
  • Prepare reports with clear recommendations for management
  • Manage a range of brands and product through their life cycle from introduction / ‘New to Range’ (NTR), to timely exit from the range
  • Ensure that we deliver the best range in the market and ensure that our product ranges are kept up to date with the latest market trends
  • To work closely with the Managing Director introducing new product lines in accordance with the Company’s product development strategy
  • Be responsible for accurate master data in our ERP system (Microsoft Navision)
  • Manage a range of brands and product through their life cycle from introduction / ‘New to Range’ (NTR), to timely exit from the range
  • Responsible for the continuous review of market pricing and the timely adjustment of prices, where appropriate
  • To work closely with the Purchasing Manager, monitoring stock trends and helping to keep stock levels within agreed targets.
  • Assist with purchasing
  • Liaise with our Marketing team to ensure that the Company effectively communicates our product offering

Master Data Management

  • Identify new to range (NTR) products and information
  • Create new parts in our ERP system (product description, barcode, dimensions etc)
  • Ensure that alternative products (cross references) are fully listed and updated
  • Liaise with Purchasing Dept. to ensure we maintain good product availability
  • Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers. Monitor the quality of service provided and carry out supplier’s regular performance meetings
  • Monitor competitor activity across brands and ranges

Market Pricing

Work with the Managing Director to help build a product and Brand pricing strategy based on weighted average margin and market pricing

  • Competition pricing analysis
  • Margin analysis
  • Identification of weak / underperforming ranges and price sensitive ranges
  • Benchmarking analysis and implementation

Marketing

  • Liaise with Marketing Dept. regarding monthly promotions, New to Range’, and pricing changes etc, to enable timely, regular communication with our customer base
  • Assess the effectiveness of promotional activity

Stock Cleanses

  • The Commercial Analyst will initiate stock cleanse processes and will communicate internally to all involved
  • Identification of ‘dead’ & obsolete stock, together with slow moving / excess stock
  • Liaising with Suppliers, depot managers and finance

Essential Criteria

  • Third level education
  • Self-starter with strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with proven experience of working in a fast-moving environment
  • Demonstrable experience in commercial data analysis
  • Excellent spreadsheet & data manipulation skills
  • Ability to tailor messages for various audiences
  • Good communications and presentation skills
  • Ability to plan workload & work on own initiative

Desirable Criteria

  • Supply chain experience advantageous
  • Experience of Microsoft Navision advantageous

Skill Set

  • Have a strong financial awareness and be able to assess the commercial viability of data analysis
  • Excellent IT skills, in particular, MS Excel
  • Action orientated and superior attention to detail; the ability to identify problems and provide effective solutions
  • Ability to work independently as well as in fast-paced, cross-functional teams.
