The role of Senior Process Engineering Manager


Avondale Foods is a leading food processing company of Fresh and Chilled products supplying a range of leading retail businesses such as Marks & Spencer’s, Waitrose and Morrisons in the UK & Ireland. Avondale Foods now wish to recruit an experienced Senior Process Engineering Manager.


The role of SPE Manager will require the post holder to take responsibility for the review and ongoing improvement of Production Processes across highly sophisticated Operations with the remit of supporting the effective management of the business in meeting its goals.


The SPE Manager will be required to manage a small team of Process Engineers and drive the alignment of business process with the ERP and MRP IT Systems. They will be required to interface with Production, Engineering and Logistics in the successful delivery of Avondale’s extensive range of products. They will be expected to manage a portfolio of Projects and business goals whilst conforming and adhering to all Health & Safety, Code of Practice and legislative requirements.


This is an exciting and varied role, where you will engage with internal stakeholders to drive process improvements and synergies in ways of working to ensure a collaborative approach, identify robust technology to drive step change improvements, and conduct trials on new methods and systems, equipment and processes.


You will have experience in a similar role ideally within a FMCG production environment however relevant experience in other sectors will be considered. Other skills which are relevant to this position include experience of managing complex projects to a successful outcome ie delivering results on-time and in full. A thorough working knowledge of Process Control will be expected coupled with excellent analytical skills and a working understanding of LEAN and Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies.


Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:


Your role as the SPE Manager will have the following key duties and responsibilities:


  • You will manage the process Engineering team and be responsible for their development and delivery on projects. This will include their training to ensure they are adequately equipped to operate efficiently and reach their full potential in the Process Engineering Department.
  • You will be accountable for developing, maintaining and improving the day to day process standards to increase operational efficiency and reduce levels of waste.
  • You will be the champion for Process change with respect to the companies ERP and MRP IT Systems. You will be expected to have a level of expertise in this area.
  • You will represent Process change at all operational meetings including, Production, Engineering and Logistics and will interact with internal and external stakeholders communicating at all levels on current processes as well as engineering plans and solutions to any process improvement or issues.
  • You will provide day to day technical support and process expertise for the manufacturing assets and operations teams.
  • You will show a flexible approach to working, a strong team-work ethic, and commitment to work place safety and product quality.
  • Develop, implement and maintain data-based systems which will identify and measure process performance, and using KPI’s to improve machine efficiency.
  • As the SPE Manager, you will be liasing with various departments to determine current and future requirements.




Essential skills and experience:


To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the SPE Manager, we are looking for someone with the following experience and skills:


  • Relevant qualification in an Engineering discipline or extensive relevant work experience.
  • Proven process improvement experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally but not exclusively in the FMCG sector.
  • Evidence of successful Project Management skills.
  • Strong experience of the maintenance and utilization of both MRP and ERP systems- experience in using Microsoft AX would be particularly beneficial.
  • Experience of Lean Manufacturing would be required.  
  • Practical experience leading and developing direct reports to maximise performance.
  • Flexible, hands-on approach to problem solving.
