The services of Hays have been retained by our client, a large Housing body based in Belfast, to recruit a Good Relations Officer on a temporary contract basis. This position is anticipated to run for a period of 3 months in the first instance with the possibility of extension.

The services of Hays have been retained by our client, a large Housing body based in Belfast, to recruit a Good Relations Officer on a temporary contract basis. This position is anticipated to run for a period of 3 months in the first instance with the possibility of extension.

Your new role
Working within the Housing Services Support Department, you will assist in the process of developing greater community cohesion in selected Housing Executive estates and put good relations at the heart of the business. Your main duties will include:

Lead skills training of Community Advocates for Change within the estates;
Liaise with the functional trainers in the skills training/ awareness raising sessions of relevant staff in good relations;
Facilitate consultation with communities to assess the good relations opportunities in their areas and assist the community in the development and delivery of a good relations projects in their local areas;
Work towards supporting safer stable communities through the promotion of mutual respect and understanding within the geographical area;
Assist local housing management in an integrated community planning process which will help deliver a shared and better future;
Ensure that adequate consideration of cultural diversity and good relations is incorporated into shared space and community planning issues;
Develop links with key stakeholders and raise awareness of the Putting Good Relations at the Heart of Social Housing Programme.

What you’ll need to succeed
To be considered for this position you must satisfy the following essential criteria:

A degree or equivalent level of qualification plus one year’s relevant experience as a practitioner in a Community Relations role, OR;
A BTEC Higher or equivalent level of qualification AND OCN Level 2 accredited qualification in Community Relations PLUS at least 2 years relevant experience as a practitioner in a Community Relations role, OR; Exceptionally, candidates not having the above level of qualification but with 3 years relevant experience as a practitioner in a Community Relations role may also be considered.

Relevant experience will be interpreted as experience in the following areas:

Monitoring & managing budgets in accordance with policies and procedures / external funding requirements; Building effective working relationships with community groups, public representatives and statutory agencies; Demonstrate good knowledge of Good Relations activity and the BRIC project: Putting Good Relations at the Heart of Social Housing ethos;
Tension monitoring and mediating with hard to reach groups;
Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate focus / discussion groups.
