HAYWARD HAWK is happy to be working with a large international telecom company in the recruitment of a Chief Software Engineer. Reporting to CIO of BT Ireland, this role will lead the development and devops team deploying to & managing the live environment. The role holder will be responsible for providing effective support both in-life and leadership of projects, dealing with all relevant issues. It will involve managing units of leads and other development and design professionals.


The success full candidate will be responsible for supporting real time operational systems providing leadership and guidance on resolving complex technical issues owning operational processes and ensuring support is provided to meet service level standards.


Key duties will include:


  • Provide strategic leadership for the Ireland CIO and IT teams as well as professional/technical experts within a specialised discipline or process area which may have diverse elements.
  • Typically to provide a mixture of Technical Design Authority, Development, Integration and Support professional services.
  • To lead the development and implementation and ongoing management of policies and procedures.
  • To work with internal, external and third-party suppliers.
  • To act as a key contributor and provide expert advice to other groups on technical and operational issues.
  • To produce cost/timescale solutions/options and manage expectations as appropriate with customer or Business Units

The ideal candidate will have the following Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant professional experience in telco environment – 7 years +.
  • Engineering/science degree.
  • Recognised industrial accreditation at professional/expert level in appropriate areas.

Skills/Experience desirable:


  • Experience and knowledge of the Ireland Telco market and products
  • Experience in software, application and enterprise distributed architecture across the full software lifecycle from concept through to deployment & support
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture styles and patterns; TOGAF experience would be advantageous
  • Demonstrable knowledge of software development methodologies, processes and tools (including Waterfall, Agile, Behaviour Driven Development)
  • Experience of designing & developing Web Services in a LAMP stack; ideally including: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML / XSLT, Perl, SQL (MySQL)
  • Experience with Arbor/ Siebel
  • Linux DevOps experience including scripting and building/installing software
  • Ability to lead and motivate cross functional teams to ensure delivery to cost, quality and time.
  • Interprets client needs, assessing the full requirements, identifying solutions
