Application Support / Automation Engineer

HAYWARD HAWK is happy to be working with an impressive financial business for the recruitment of an application support engineer to join the company in there Belfast city centre site. The key responsibilities of the Application Support engineer will support of all the business globally, providing operational technical support across internally developed, Off-The-Shelf and SaaS based applications. The primary objectives for this role will be to work as part of an application support team to support existing systems, streamline processes, and to identify and implement automation where possible. The successful candidate will need a background in automation and diverse technology experience to identify processes and practices that can be improved across all the teams (development, testing and infrastructure) that currently support the enterprise. 

Key duties will include:

  • Administer, support and troubleshoot firm-wide job scheduling applications such as AutoSys, Orchestrator and Alteryx.
  • Deploy new scheduled jobs as defined by development teams.
  • Monitor applications and environments, and develop additional monitoring including log scraping and monitoring tools
  • Work with development teams to safely deploy production applications.
  • Act as point of escalation for application service interruptions.
  • Work with development teams to ensure all software platforms firm-wide are well-documented, along with basic troubleshooting steps and escalation procedures which can be supported by the 24/7 IT Service Desk and reduce the frequency of developer-level escalation.
  • Test Windows updates and software deployments before they are rolled out company-wide.

Technical Skills

  • Windows, Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
  • Databases / SQL (Microsoft SQL Server, Postgres, Oracle, AWS Athena)
  • Hybrid Public Cloud (AWS) and On-Prem Virtualized Environment (VMWare)
  • Monitoring Tools (SCOM, SumoLogic, EG Monitor, Zabbix)
  • Deployment Tools (SCCM)
  • Experience with one or more of the following programming languages: PowerShell, C#, Python, Perl, Java
  • Understanding of ITIL foundation (Incident, Problem, Change) methodologies
  • Automation tools (Autosys, Orchestrator, Alteryx)

 

Required:

A relevant university degree in technology or engineering field or finance, economics or related discipline, or recognised professional or equivalent qualification, or qualified by experience as well as 4+ years’ experience working in a support/development environment with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience and background within the Financial Services Industry
